2 1. My attitude has a big influence on my prayer life.

3 Luke 18:1-3 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

4 1. My attitude has a big influence on my prayer life.
2. It is my great privilege to admit my powerless state.

5 Luke 18:4-5 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

6 Luke 18:6-7 And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?

7 2. It is my great privilege to admit my powerless state.
3. God is not this judge. He cares and is sensitive to my needs.

4. I am not a nameless widow. I am His kid, and I don’t have to get His attention.

4. I am not a nameless widow. I am His kid, and I don’t have to get His attention. 5. The question is not whether God is showing up in the conversation but whether I am showing up.

10 Luke 18:8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

11 Luke 18:9-10 The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

12 Luke 18:11-12 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 5. The question is not whether God is showing up in the conversation but whether I am showing up.
6. God is not impressed with my intelligence briefing.

14 Luke 18:13-14 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

7. Why is the bad dude the good dude?

16 7. Why is the bad dude the good dude?
8. It is not about cleaning up my prayers; it’s about being honest about who I am.

17 Luke 18:15-16 The Little Children and Jesus People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

18 Luke 18:17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

19 8. It is not about cleaning up my prayers; it’s about being honest about who I am.
9. Evidently, everything about me, AND everything about everyone else matters so, my prayer matters.

20 Things to consider in the conversation
a. Have a place. b. Start small. c. Pray what’s on God’s mind. d. Pray what’s on my mind. e. Consider writing out the prayer. f. Learn spiritual reversal tactics.
