2 What is MDQ? MDQ stands for Menu Driven Query.
It is a functionality within the PCORnet Query Tool A research question in the form of an MDQ request is distributed securely to DataMarts A MDQ can consists of questions about diagnosis, demographics, and vital characteristics contained in the PCORnet Common Data Model (CDM)

5 Sample Research Questions
How many patient have a diabetes code of interest and do not have a COPD diagnosis code of interest by 10 year age groups and race? Count of patients AGE (calculated as of the date of request submission) with an ICD-9-CM DIAGNOSIS OF DIABETES, but not an ICD-9-CM DIAGNOSIS OF COPD, stratified by AGE IN 10 YEAR AGE GROUPS and RACE. Count of patients IN AGE RANGE (calculated as of DATE) with DX CODE X, but not DX CODE Y, stratified by ­AGE (5-YEAR OR 10-YEAR GROUPS) and RACE.

How many patients have ‘Male’ or ‘Female’ sex and weight of lbs in the period of January 1, 2011 – December 31, 2014 by race and ethnicity? Count of patients with SEX MALE OR FEMALE and a WEIGHT LBS during a VITAL MEASURE PERIOD JANUARY 1, 2011 – DECEMBER 31, 2014, stratified by RACE AND ETHNICITY. Count of patients with specified SEX and a WEIGHT MEASURE OF X-Y during a SPECIFIED VITAL MEASURE PERIOD, stratified by RACE and ETHNICITY.

7 Sample Research Questions
How many patients have specified race and specified health care setting by race and sex? Count of patients with ASIAN (02), BLACK OR AFRICAN AMERICAN (03), AND WHITE (05) RACE and an encounter in the EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT (ED), EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT ADMIT TO INPATIENT HOSPITAL STAY (EI), OR INPATIENT (IP) CARE SETTING, stratified by RACE and SEX. Count of patients with a SPECIFIED RACE and ENCOUNTER IN Y CARE SETTING, stratified by RACE and SEX.
