2 What will be assessed and how?
READING SPaG MATHS ONE PAPER Reading booklet and associated answer booklet. Paper 1, arithmetic Paper 2, reasoning Paper 3, reasoning Paper 1, short answer questions. Paper 2, spelling. CONTINUOUS TEACHER ASSESSMENT WRITING SCIENCE

3 When are the SATs 2017

4 How long does each test last?
Reading (60 minutes) Spelling (approximately 15 minutes) Punctuation, Vocabulary and Grammar (45 minutes) Mathematics - Paper 1: Arithmetic (30 minutes) - Paper 2: Reasoning (40 minutes) - Paper 3: Reasoning (40 minutes)

5 How the SATs results are reported
Each pupil receives: a raw score (number of raw marks awarded); a scaled score in each tested subject; confirmation of whether or not they attained the national standard.

7 What are scaled scores? a scaled score of 100 is judged to have met the ‘national standard’; a scaled score of more than 110 is judged to have exceeded the national standard; a scaled score of less than 100 is judged to have not yet met the national standard. 80 is the lowest scaled score that can be awarded 120 is the highest scaled score

8 Reading 50 marks This test consists of a reading answer booklet and a reading booklet. Pupils will have a total of 1 hour to read the 3 texts and complete the questions at their own pace. The least-demanding text will come first with the following texts increasing in level of difficulty.

10 SPaG A spelling test containing 20 words
-lasts approximately 15 minutes. A separate test is given on grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. - lasts for 45 minutes and requires short answer questions including some multiple choice. Marks for these two tests are added together to give a total for grammar, punctuation and spelling. 20 marks 50 marks 70 marks in total

15 Writing Teachers will assess children’s writing. Children’s results for English writing will be a judgement of their work throughout Year 6. Grammar, punctuation and spelling skills will be assessed; creativity and writing style will also be evaluated. Schools will moderate their judgements with other local schools and may be moderated by their Local Authorities.

16 How is consistency assured?
The DfE have issued guidance for schools. To aid accuracy, alongside, exemplification materials, school has: External moderation; Cluster moderation; In house moderation.

17 How can I help my child? Try not to put pressure on your child;
Support with homework and games from class page; Read and discuss a variety of texts regularly– use the questions from the class page; Short bursts of mental maths, times tables and problem solving; Please don’t use the sample or actual papers from last year as we will use these in school. Essentials! Early nights and lots of sleep Good attendance Be on time for school Eat a good breakfast LOTS OF PRAISE AND ENCOURAGEMENT!

19 SATs Week On the morning of each test:
Children can come in from 8:30am; We will have some calm time with music, juice and a piece of fruit. Make sure children arrive in school in good time so they don't feel rushed or stressed; Give plenty of encouragement.
