Heat travels through a substance by contact. Convection Heat travels through liquids or gases. Demo with hob oven and grill

11 Heat Transfer Radiation The movement of heat waves.
For examples – The grill. Heat waves travel from the grill to the bread to brown it. The grills heating element gives of heat in all directions. The heat travels downwards to the bread and toasts it.

15 Ingredients ½ yellow pepper 1 spring onion 1 mushroom
30g hard cheese, e.g. Cheddar, Edam, Gruyere 2 slices bread (or a bagel or a piece of French stick sliced in half) 2 x 15ml spoons tomato pizza sauce ½ x 5ml spoon mixed herbs © Crown copyright 2008

18 2. Slice the pepper, spring onion and mushroom.

20 4. Place the bread under the grill and toast one side.

28 Prepare for practical Follow the instructions:
Aprons on, hair tied back, wash hands etc. Gather your ingredients at your work station. Stand and wait for my next instructions. You have 3 minutes to do this. GO!

29 Pizza Toast Ingredients 100g cheese 2 x slice bread or pitta bread or baguette 1 tbsp tomato puree Optional toppings ½ Red Peppers 50 g ham 20g Sweetcorn Method 1. Prepare vegetables by washing cutting and slicing correctly. 2. Grate cheese carefully. 3. Toast the slice of bread under the grill for 2 minutes with low/medium temperature and repeat. 4. Take the bread out of grill and spread some tomato puree on. 5. Arrange the vegetables in an appetising layer. Grill for 5-10 minutes. REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE GRILL AT ALL TIMES TO AVOID DISSAPOINTMENT OF BURNING! Use your fish slice to take your pizza toast out of the tray.

30 Writing your evaluation
Points to consider: Hygiene and safety Bridge and claw technique. Did you use the grill safely? Did you complete work on time? Did you leave your station clean and tidy? The finished appearance of your pizza toast? WWW? EBI?
