2 Billie Holiday “Synopsis
The life of Billie Holiday all began on April 7, She was an American Jazz musician and song-writer that career lasted over 30 years. Sadly, her career ended because of a crazy addiction to heroin, and alcohol. This is her life story.

3 Early Life Billie holiday as a young child growing up wasn’t the regular life of any kid. She was born into poverty. Her father Clarence Holiday never stayed with the family like other fathers would. He chose his musical career over his family and stayed on the road with his guitar. Billie began her childhood working at a very young age by running errands, and cleaning a house of prostitutions. As we get deeper into her life we can see that her life never had a really good outlook from her prospective. As we transition over into her mid-life or parts of her life that made her who she is today, we should keep in mind of the foundation her family has placed for her.

4 Later in Holidays Life In 1928, she moved with her mother which she became a housemaid but with the depression that was occurring, she was soon put out of work. With her mother being unemployed, it forced Holiday to go out and try to provide for her and her mother. Holiday soon had a singing audition and got hired on the spot. For the years to come she sang in Harlem clubs, her career took off when she met Benny Goodman and he used her on one of his records. But it was through a multiple amount of records and songs that made her get her international reputation.

5 The Lift of her career In the late 1930s she became a singer in a Big band with Count Bassie, then later moved to another popular artist by the name of Artie Shaw. Her relationship with these artists where always pretty descent. Their careers where enhanced simply because of the musical genius of the both of them. No matter who Holiday worked with she made the best of it and made her name as big as it is now.

6 Successes Holiday came out with a song by the name of “God bless the Child”, this song reached the top of the charts by hitting number 25 in Holiday continued to come out with multiple songs that became very popular in these times. She even had songs the featured other popular artist such as Paul Whiteman, Frank Sintra. The statement that holiday was making in her life was that she knew what she was doing and was ready to perform on such a big stage.

7 The Dream Killer The down fall of Holiday’s beautiful and wonderful career came to a horrible end that was caused by an addiction that no one should have to go through. This addiction was an alcohol and heroin addiction. Holiday stopped drinking on the doctor’s command but soon came back to the bottle. By late may, she had lost 20 pounds. When her producer and friends realized she had lost so much weight they tried to get her to the hospital, but they were unsuccessful. Sadly, Holiday passed away on July 17, 1959 in the bed in which she was arrested for possession of illegal narcotics (heroine) As we all can see, just one drink can lead to multiple and then before you know BOOM! Your career can go down the drain that quick. Holiday was at the peak of her career and her life was ended do to a careless addiction that shouldn’t have been there in beginning.
