6 LOCATION (Where are we?)
Absolute Location A latitude and longitude (global location) or a street address (local location). . Relative Location Described by landmarks, time, direction or distance. From one place to another. You are Here

7 What is it like there, what kind of place is it?
Human Characteristics Languages, Customs How many people live, work, and visit a place. Physical Characteristics Landforms (mountains, rivers, etc.), climate, wildlife,etc.

What is the absolute location of Simeon Career Academy? What are some of the human characteristics of Chicago? Simeon? What about the physical characteristics of Chicago? Simeon?

9 MOVEMENT How are people, goods, ideas moved from place to place?
Human Movement Trucks, Trains, Planes, cars Information Movement Phones, computer ( ), mail Idea Movement How do fads (popular ideas) move from place to place? TV, Radio, Magazines

10 REGIONS How are Regions similar to and different from other places?

How can we describe where we live in terms of regions? Vernacular: Midwest Functional: Newspaper? Cell phone? Formal: government? Cities? Characteristics?

13 HUMAN-ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION (HEI)
How do humans and the environment affect each other? We depend on it. Drinking water We modify it. AC/Heat We adapt to it. CLOTHING!: shorts, winter coats, hats, etc.

14 HUMAN- ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION
So if we ‘adapt and depend’ on our environment, how are we ‘modifying’ it? Global issues Pollution Global warming Deforestation “Throw away” mentality
