2 Following the Resurrected Christ
Jesus began to reestablish His relationship with His followers Some things were not different, the still saw the supernatural occur when they were with Jesus. But now Jesus was different, the resurrected King and Lord of all! Paul writes about the difference between Christ in human flesh & the risen Lord; and also fleshly human verses the born again believer in this way.

3 “Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh
“Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:16-17

I. Jesus makes the mundane miraculous 21:1-8 A. “This way He showed Himself” 21:1 1. Jesus came back into their world in ways they would understand and recognize 2. Jesus brought with Him the same love and teaching that were consistent with what He had taught and revealed before

I. Jesus makes the mundane miraculous 21:1-8 B. The Disciples go fishing! 1. Went out immediately 2. Out all night and caught nothing! 3. Jesus asks did you catch anything?

3. Jesus asks did you catch anything? 21:5 a. In the natural way they could never do the supernatural! John 15:5 b. Fighting the elements with their best efforts on the “chance” to catch something.

C. Jesus speaks familiar words: “Cast your net on the other side” 21:6 D. Silly command, useless unless you are Christ! Do it my way says Jesus, with faith involved E. Jesus looked like an ordinary man from the boat but was in fact the resurrect Lord! 21:7

F. John immediately recognizes the supernatural work of Jesus 21:7 E. Peter passionately goes to him 21:7 G. The little boat is overweight, the disciples drag in the large catch 21:8 H. “Do not be afraid, from now on you will catch men” Luke 5:10 Jesus to Peter

9 Do you live in your own strength?
Do you try to run your live, business, relationships, and supply your own needs according to the flesh or according the power of a resurrected life? Do you want to continue to catch nothing, or an abundance with Christ His way?

10 II. The risen Lord fellowships with His Disciples 21:9-14
A. Jesus had already prepared a meal for them & invites them to breakfast 21:9,12 B. Jesus has them cook some of the “miraculous” fish. C. The fish caught were 153. There are 195 nations in the world today 21: D. Jesus served them the same as always giving thanks E. No one asked who He was, they recognized His handiwork F. 3rd time they had seen Him since the crucifixion 21:14

11 The Lord Jesus wants to fellowship with you!
He has prepared the way through His Holy Spirit I John 1:1-4 He will prepare a fellowship meal in Heaven for us! Rev. 19:9 Without Christ we can do nothing Everything with Christ is done in fellowship with Him John 15:1-15

12 III. Jesus restores and confirms Peter 21:15-17
A. Jesus asks Peter 3 times if he loves Him. Peter had denied the Lord 3 times with oaths and curses B. Jesus has Peter get honest about him loyalty and love for Him asking; “Do you love Me?”

13 Interesting exchange of the words “Love”
1st 2 times Jesus asks Peter “Do you Agapao Me?”: Love that values and esteems, an unselfish love 3rd time, Jesus asks Peter, “Do you Phileo Me?”: Cherishing the person above all else, shown in affection, consistent, with the best of motives Peter answers “yes” all 3 times. Each time Jesus commissions Peter back into ministry

14 Have you denied Christ? Have you been ignoring Christ?
Have you been running your own life instead of following Jesus? Jesus will restore you to fellowship and ministry if you will get honest with Him! He is waiting with a fellowship meal for you!

15 IV. Jesus calls His disciples to unconditional surrender 21:18-23
A. Peter in submission to the risen Lord would eventually act out his professed love and commitment that he would die for Jesus. 21:18 B. Jesus commands Peter to just “Follow” Him 21:19 B. Peter recognizes the close relationship John has with Jesus 21:20 B. Peter struggles with his future and wants to compare God’s will for him with John’s future 21:21-23

16 Are you ready to love and follow the Risen Lord Jesus?
Do not make conditions. He is to be followed as Lord! He will be with you to the very end. He is worth all that you can give Him!
