1 Jeopardy 20 Squares Start Rules:
Each group has a white board and a dry erase marker One group chooses category and point value Every group answers If a correct answer is given, that group receives points. If the group that chose the category and point value gets the answer correct they receive an additional two points. If an incorrect answer is given, no points are awarded. If the group that chose the category and point value gets the answer wrong, two points are deducted from their score. Start

2 Final Jeopardy Question
Terms Random Mutations Punnett squares Pedigrees & Karyotype 10 20 30 40 Click and highlight the Category, then type in your own topic. Final Jeopardy Question

3 6 1 2 5 4 3 10 Point Question Homozygous, Heterozygous
6 Homozygous, Heterozygous 1 2 5 4 3 1. An organism that has two identical alleles for a particular trait, Ex: HH or hh is ____________ , while an organism that has two different alleles for a particular trait, Ex: Hh is ____________ Back to the Game Board 10 Point Question

4 6 1 2 5 4 3 20 Point Question Codominance
6 1 2 5 4 3 Codominance When offspring express two alleles for a particular trait at the same time. Ex: Black X White = black & white stripes Back to the Game Board 20 Point Question

5 6 1 2 5 4 3 30 Point Question Incomplete Dominance
6 Incomplete Dominance 1 2 5 4 3 When offspring express a trait that is an intermediate or blend of two parents, because one allele for a gene is not completely dominant over another. Ex: red x white = pink Back to the Game Board 30 Point Question

6 6 X-linked or Sex-linked traits 1 2 5 4 3 Traits that are carried by a gene on the X chromosome Back to the Game Board 40 Point Question

7 6 1 2 5 4 3 10 Point Question Phenotype
6 Phenotype 1 2 5 4 3 The physical appearance or physical expression of an organism’s alleles. Ex: tall or yellow Back to the Game Board 10 Point Question

8 6 1 2 5 4 3 20 Point Question Genotype
6 Genotype 1 2 5 4 3 The gene (or allele) combination of an organism. Ex: Tt, TT, tt Back to the Game Board 20 Point Question

9 6 Several codons can code for the same amino acid 1 2 5 4 3 Why do certain mutations have no effect on the amino acid sequence created in protein synthesis? Back to the Game Board 30 Point Question

10 6 1 2 5 4 3 40 Point Question Red flower parent is RR
White flower parent is rr 6 1 2 5 4 3 A red flower parent was crossed with a white flower parent to produce all red flowers in the first generation. If two red flowers from the first generation were crossed to produce a 3:1 ratio of red to white in the second generation, then what is the genotype of the original parents? Back to the Game Board 40 Point Question

11 Insertions and deletions are the two types of this kind of mutation.
6 1 2 5 4 3 Frameshift mutation Insertions and deletions are the two types of this kind of mutation. Back to the Game Board 10 Point Question

12 6 1 2 5 4 3 20 Point Question Silent mutation
6 1 2 5 4 3 Silent mutation Mutation that causes no change in the amino acid sequence. Back to the Game Board 20 Point Question

13 A mutation that results in a premature stop codon.
6 1 2 5 4 3 Nonsense mutation A mutation that results in a premature stop codon. Back to the Game Board 30 Point Question

14 6 1 2 5 4 3 40 Point Question Missense mutation
6 1 2 5 4 3 Missense mutation A mutation that results in a change in the amino acid sequence. (one amino acid is changed) Back to the Game Board 40 Point Question

15 Genotypes /alleles of parents
Genotypes of offspring Possible offspring results from the parents (these are possible-not guaranteed- results of a cross) 6 1 2 5 4 3 List 3 things that punnett squares can show us. Back to the Game Board 10 Point Question

16 6 1 2 5 4 3 20 Point Question Genotypes= 1SS, 2 Ss, 1ss
Phenotypes= 3 short hair, 1 long hair 6 1 2 5 4 3 In cats short hair (S) is dominant to long hair (s). Cross a heterozygous short hair cat with a heterozygous short hair cat and provide genotype and phenotype ratios of offspring. Back to the Game Board 20 Point Question

17 6 1 2 5 4 3 30 Point Question Genotype= 100% Ss
Phenotype= 100% short hair 6 1 2 5 4 3 In cats short hair (S) is dominant to long hair (s). Cross a homozygous dominant short hair cat with a long hair cat and provide genotype and phenotype ratios of offspring. Back to the Game Board 30 Point Question

18 6 1 2 5 4 3 Back to the Game Board 40 Point Question

19 What is the notation for the karyotype to the left?
47 XX+13 6 1 2 5 4 3 What is the notation for the karyotype to the left? Back to the Game Board 10 Point Question

20 List three ways that a pedigree chart can be used
-Determine if/how a trait can be inherited -if it is dominant or recessive and -if it is x-linked or autosomal 6 1 2 5 4 3 List three ways that a pedigree chart can be used Back to the Game Board 20 Point Question

21 6 1 2 5 4 3 30 Point Question heterozygous
heterozygous 1 2 5 4 3 Shaded in= affected with Albinism. Is individual II-1 homozygous or heterozygous for normal pigment? Explain. Back to the Game Board 30 Point Question

22 6 No, because the mom is homozygous recessive and passes on one albino allele. 1 2 5 4 3 Are any of the offspring for individuals I-I and I – 2 homozygous for normal pigment? If so , which ones? Back to the Game Board 40 Point Question

23 Final Jeopardy Question
Normal gene sequence: T-G-A-G-G-T-C-T-C-C-T-C Mutated gene sequence: T-G-A-G-G-T-C-A-C-C-T-C Identify the type of mutation! 4 3 7 1 2 5 6 Point mutation (substitution)
