Rituals What is your Definition of Ritual?

Rituals Webster’s defines Rituals as pertaining to rites, A prescribed form of performing a divine service, ceremonies, observed by an organization, or an individual. Relate Words: Conformity There are Spiritual and /or Religious Rituals

Rituals For example when I put my wedding ring on in the morning I start on my thumb and say In the name of the Father. I move the ring to the pointer and say and of the Son. I move the ring to the middle finger and say and of the Holy Spirit. I move the ring to the ring finger and say Amen and put the ring on. This is a Ritual for me, because, when we got married that is what we had to do. For me it is symbolic of the commitment I made that day.

Rituals Each Morning, The Native American Indians turn facing each Compass Point starting with North and pray in each direction to start their day.

Knowing People’s Routines and Rituals can help with providing essential care and can help you design Reminiscing Programs Specific to the individual.   Knowing yourself, What Programs/Individual Activities would you plan for you? Take a few minutes to jot some down.

One Challenge to accomplish will be determining which routines and rituals an individual is remembering and feeling connected to, since our lives have so many different compartments. CHILDHOOD ADOLENSCENE EARLY ADULTHOOD LATER ADULTHOOD

Another Challenge that may present it self is fitting an individuals Routines/Rituals into the systems that have been created to help facilities run smoothly. My new career as case work for the Pike County has me in contact with the Ombudsman and she reports that the main complaint she hears during survey is about Respecting an individuals’ Routine.

In Conclusion We as Activity professionals are the most likely to connect to where an individual feels they are age wise. In doing so we can establish what kind of routine they would have had at that age, or rituals they might have engaged in. We can then create a more comfortable and safe environment for them.

“It’s a hard thing to leave any deeply routine life, even if you hate it.” ― John Steinbeck, East of Eden

“This is what rituals are for
“This is what rituals are for. We do spiritual ceremonies as human beings in order to create a safe resting place for our most complicated feelings of joy or trauma, so that we don't have to haul those feelings around with us forever, weighing us down. We all need such places of ritual safekeeping. And I do believe that if your culture or tradition doesn't have the specific ritual you are craving, then you are absolutely permitted to make up a ceremony of your own devising, fixing your own broken-down emotional systems with all the do-it-yourself resourcefulness of a generous plumber/poet.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
