2. WORLD TB DAY Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis
World TB Day is March 24, 2008
World TB Day promotes awareness of Tuberculosis worldwide and helps better define and promote control measures
With this proclamation, PHD wants to increase awareness of TB in Nevada County and encourage those at higher risk to come to us to be tested

3. WORLD TB DAY TB was once a leading cause of death in the United States
TB most commonly affects the lungs (85%) and if not treated may be fatal
Threat of TB is still very real in mobile society
Increased cases in foreign-born, disadvantaged, certain immune-suppressive diseases, or individuals with significant barriers to care

4. WORLD TB DAY 14,000 Cases reported in United States 2006
2,779 Cases reported in California in 2006
NCPHD had 13 individual patient encounters in treatment in 2006 and 2007
There were 52 positive TSTs reported to NCPHD in 2007
Currently we have 5 people under preventive treatment in Eastern and 2 in Western County
There was a outbreak of active TB activity in (4 cases), with 33 and 50 contacts respectively
TB Skin Testing increased by 27% in 2007 from 2006
