3 Religion and Science Revision
Learning Objective: To revise the Religion and Science unit. I can explain scientific and religious theories on origin of the universe and humans I can evaluate whether religion and science can work together I can understand what makes a successful 6 mark AO1 answer

4 The first group to finish all 4 sheets wins!
Research Runner! For the exam you will need to be able to explain religious and scientific theories for both the origin of the universe and the origin of humans. You will also need to be able to explain what these theories teach us about God and the role/special place of humans. In groups you need to work together to fill in the gaps on each theory. You can come up to the front and get a new sheet when everyone in your group has finished. The first group to finish all 4 sheets wins! Spend 15 minutes on this

5 Religion and Science Revision
Learning Objective: To revise the Religion and Science unit. I can explain scientific and religious theories on origin of the universe and humans I can evaluate whether religion and science can work together I can understand what makes a successful 6 mark AO1 answer

6 Can religion and science work together?
On your sugar paper draw a Venn diagram and place the bullet points where you think they should go. Big Bang (evidence Red Shift) Paley’s Design Argument Darwin’s theory of Evolution (evidence fossils) Christian Creation (God made the world in 7 days) Hindu Creation (Brahma created everything) Steady State Theory Universe was created by chance Universe was designed by an intelligent designer The Universe is planned The Universe is random and here by chance Humans are made last (special) Fine Tuning God created the first single celled organism Humans have a purpose (e.g. till and keep the land, be fruitful and multiply) God could be guiding evolution God could have started the Big Bang (First Cause) Liberalist (look for deeper meaning) Fundamentalist (takes sacred texts literally) Einstein – God reveals himself in the harmony of all that exists There is no need for God to explain the universe

7 Religion and Science Revision
Learning Objective: To revise the Religion and Science unit. I can explain scientific and religious theories on origin of the universe and humans I can evaluate whether religion and science can work together I can understand what makes a successful 6 mark AO1 answer

8 A successful 6 mark AO1 answer
Explain ideas about the origin of the universe according to: Religious stories of creation Scientific theories (6 marks)

9 6th mark – concise, well-argued and coherent
6 mark AO1 questions Explain ideas about the origin of the universe according to: Religious stories of creation Scientific theories One religious idea is the Christian creation story which says God created the universe and everything in it in 7 days. Christians believe it was created by an all-powerful God because he just had to speak and it happened, for example ‘Let there be light’. In addition, the world was carefully designed and planned by God and was made perfectly, illustrated by the quote ‘God saw what he had made and saw that it was good.’ 1 mark for a simple point 2 mark for developing the point 3rd mark for a well developed point 6th mark – concise, well-argued and coherent One scientific theory is the Big Bang Theory which states that the universe began 15 billion years ago when a singularity (ball of matter) exploded in a great fireball. Then the temperature dropped causing hydrogen and helium to form, followed by more solid matter which created stars and galaxies. 5th mark for a developed second point
