SG Objectives Support, develop and share knowledge of successful community-level initiatives; gather lessons for global environmental benefits; build capacity, partnerships, and networks of stakeholders… …for transformational change.

SGP Uniqueness Decentralized, democratic, transparent and country-driven through NCs, NSCs and CPMT. Emphasis on community participation and livelihood enhancement to ensure sustainability. Reaching the “unreachables”. Pilot nature of projects to show that “it is possible”.

Co-financing Requirement and Needs
1:1 financing. In-kind is a must for all projects Strategically planned/implemented country programme sustainability SGP can be delivery mechanism for non-GEF projects and programs Better reporting on co-financing

Building Partnerships and Constituencies
Organizing grantee network(s) Identifying and sustaining SGP friends and champions Linking to the in-country members and Regional Focal Coordinators of the GEF NGO Network Linking with other grant-making NGOs Linking with NGOs active in environmental conventions

Special Niches Gender equality and women empowerment
- gender focal person in NSC - gender considerations in CPS and project development - gender training required for SGP staff Support to Indigenous Peoples - consideration of the UNDRIP - innovative project development processes - IP member or focal person in NSC Support Youth and Children
