3 What is LLI (Leveled Literacy Intervention)
The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention is a powerful, short-term intervention, that provides daily, intensive, small-group instruction, which supplements classroom literacy teaching. LLI turns struggling readers into successful readers with engaging leveled books and fast- paced, systematically designed lessons. Have participants read silently, then popcorn out the KEY words that stuck out to them.

4 SPED Departments have the Blue System:
Levels C (3-4) through N (30) Kindergarten - Beginning 3rd grade Hayley shares what happens at 7 Hills. There may be other kits of different colors on your campus: Orange, Green, Gold, Red

5 How will it benefit my students?
The goal of LLI is to lift the literacy achievement of students who are not achieving grade-level expectations in reading. The LLI systems are designed to: Advance the literacy learning of students not meeting grade-level expectations in reading Deepen and expand comprehension with close reading Elevate the expertise of teachers Increase reading volume by engaging students in large amounts of successful daily reading Increase student engagement with books that build knowledge Intervene with small groups of struggling readers to maximize growth Meet the needs of struggling readers Monitor student progress. 7 Getting Organized for Efficient Teaching
See pgs. Vii - xi for materials needed to get reading for level Blue lessons.`There is a CD that came with each kit. Resources can also be accessed by downloading them on the Fountas and Pinnell website. *Being organized and ready for each group is essential to success with students. Patrice

8 Odd vs. Even Lessons -Odd lessons are based on the group’s INSTRUCTIONAL TEXT LEVEL. -Even lessons are based on a rereading of the previous day’s book, as well as introducing an INDEPENDENT level book for students to practice fluency and comprehension (usually one to two levels below the instructional level text from the previous day’s ODD lesson). 15 Word Work If students don’t need the word work that is in the lesson plan, use the “Continuum of Literacy Learning” Word Work ideas for each level, to choose word work that is tied to the text, and also what the students need. Hand out copies of this resource. Patrice

16 Running Records Where do I access them? When do I take them?
Online Resources Choose Kit Color Lesson Resources Click Lesson Number/Book Title along left hand side (Running Records will be with the Odd Number Text that comes after the even text number read in the resources) When do I take them? On the EVEN day, at the beginning of the lesson (place this where it fits best for you) Take it on the previous day’s INSTRUCTIONAL level text, as a reread. - Hayley

It takes about an hour or so, but is self-paced based on your needs.
