REGIONAL USERS GROUP MEETING Creating and Managing Engineering Documents within Teamcenter 20 OCT :15 – 3:55 PRESENTER CHALLENGE: PLM World challenges you to create image-rich and text-lite slide decks to help increase attendee learning and their presentation skills. Any use of text should have a font size of 40 points or greater for ease of reading. Less text is more. This is especially true with scientific and technical presentations! Image selection is an art and is most effective when presenters are able to incorporate striking, unusual or novel images. Images that support metaphors and analogies can also be highly effective. Graphs and charts should be used sparingly. Emphasize that it’s not about the numbers, but what the numbers mean. Take a look at Haiku Deck, Zuru or Canva. You can find royalty free, high quality images from Flickr Creative Commons. Image rich presentations improve attendee learning and session value. 7 General Creation of a Document
Create a generic Engineering Document in Teamcenter Import a WORD dataset into the ItemRevision REGIONAL USERS GROUP MEETING

8 From within Teamcenter, select a folder and then…
File  New  Item In this example, an engineering procedure to calibrate strain gages will be created.

9 Walk through the steps of creating a New Item
Walk through the steps of creating a New Item. This is very similar to the creation of a Design Item, Common Item, Manufacturing Item, and Engineering Note Item.

10 Click the Assign button to create a new item number and revision.

11 Click on the Category drop-down list.

12 Select a category for the document you are creating.

13 For legacy documents, the old document number and original author can be noted.

14 Choose the appropriate Division/Sector/Group.
If this is a revision, type in the revision author’s name.

18 The Engineering Document has been successfully created.
In this example, a WORD document needs to be added as a dataset to the ItemRevision. File  New  Dataset

19 Add a WORD dataset.

20 In this example, an available WORD document is imported into the dataset.

21 The dataset has been added to the ItemRevision
The dataset has been added to the ItemRevision. With just a double-click on the dataset, the file can be opened and edited as needed.

This tool allows for the mapping of Teamcenter attributes to User defined MS Office attributes. Teamcenter attributes can be used with a MS Office field code. REGIONAL USERS GROUP MEETING

35 Documents in Structure Manager
Using Copy/Paste/Remove, a documentation structure can be created and managed in Teamcenter Provides a structure for accessing all of your data without the need for tedious searching Using Open with  Viewer or Details, the documentation is easily accessible REGIONAL USERS GROUP MEETING

36 Send the Hierarchy BOM to the Structure Manager
Top Level Engineering Doc Item Send the Hierarchy BOM to the Structure Manager

37 It’s built the same way in Teamcenter! Easy to learn.
Top Level Engineering Doc Item Notice how the Document structure looks exactly like a 3-D model Assembly structure. It’s built the same way in Teamcenter! Easy to learn. The data is Live and can be edited at any time. It can even be released and revised for document control.

38 Select any item of interest and quickly send it to My Teamcenter to access the datasets.
You only need to remember the Top Level document in your system to have direct access to all of the project documentation and CAD models!

39 Double-Click on the Excel dataset to launch it into Excel.
