2. Our Motor
Simply put, our device is a ramp down which a wheel rolls, pulling and rolling the string up one meter.
In order to better control the speed that the weight raises, we are using a counter-weight.

4. Inefficient and Complicated
Although our idea is fairly simple, we made sure to make it a bit unnecessary and brute.
We added a very unnecessary leverage release device.
Also once the axle starts rolling there’s nothing to keep it on track other than the alignment of the string.

5. Stored Energy
Our device utilizes gravitational potential energy. The wheel is released at the top of the ramp and the potential energy at the top is converted to kinetic energy at the bottom. The wheel is then met by the block at the bottom and stopped at a meter displacement of string.

6. Budget We were restricted to a $20 budget. “Lumber” (wood scraps) - $2

Small Weight Plates- $2
Duct Tape
Whopping Total $7.25
…of course we didn’t actually pay for anything.

7. Design Issues
We went with a simple design to reduce the chances of something not working.
We ran into a problem with the wheel not being heavy enough and incorporated the use of a counterweight.
We had trouble with the counterweight hitting the kg weight as they pass.

8. Conclusion
The idea of our ‘motor’ is to accomplish the goal of raising 1 kg 1 meter off the ground in as close to 10 seconds as possible.
We wanted to make sure we had a device that could accomplish that goal more than having a device that was extremely inefficient and could not perform the task very well.
In theory, we have a device that will raise the weight one meter in exactly 10 seconds.
