New Architecture EMC CLARiiON CX4 Series August 2008 UltraFlex = Dual Protocol, Expandable, and Future-Ready Systems x8 CMI LCC High-performance Flash drives Spin Down Low power SATA II drives Adaptive Cooling Virtual Provisioning = Capacity optimization = Energy efficiency Multi-core processors Increased memory 64-bit FLARE Up to 960 drives = up to twice the performance, scale SPS Power Supply IO Complex iSCSI module Fibre Channel module CPU Module Multi-Core Processors Memory CPU Note to Presenter: On this slide, SPS = secondary power supply, and LCC = link controller card. As you see in this block diagram, a lot has changed compared to the CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale series. The combination of moving from a 32-bit to a 64-bit FLARE operating environment and the integration of multi- core Intel-based processors enables the CLARiiON CX4 series to deliver new levels of performance and scale. The CLARiiON CX4 series offers up to twice the performance as the previous generation CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale series and provides up to 2.5 times more processing power. The CLARiiON CX4 series also delivers twice the scalability with support for up to 960 drives—twice the memory and twice the LUNs than the previous generation. Another architectural change highlight is that the CPU and memory has been physically separated from the IO complex, which makes servicing and upgrading the systems much easier, and also provides the basis for CLARiiON’s new UltraFlex technology.

6 New UltraFlex Technology
EMC CLARiiON CX4 Series August 2008 Designed for Flexibility, Expansion, and Future Technologies FUTURE CONNECTIVITY i.e., 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel, 10 Gb/s iSCSI Flexibility to mix and match Fibre Channel and iSCSI Easy, online expansion via hot pluggable IO modules Upgrade IO modules to accommodate future technology changes and integrate with existing investments The next thing Fibre Channel and IP Fibre Channel and IP UltraFlex technology is a combination of the new modular connectivity design and unique FLARE software capabilities that delivers flexibility, easy expansion, and support for future technologies. All CLARiiON CX4 series systems offer the flexibility of dual-protocol support with both Fibre Channel and iSCSI as the base configuration. Note to Presenter: Click now in Slide Show mode for animation. UltraFlex technology also enables online expansion via hot-pluggable IO modules. 7 Flash Drives for Tier “0” Requirements
EMC CLARiiON CX4 Series August 2008 Available October 2008 Faster performance 30 times IOPS and less than 1 millisecond response time More energy efficient 38 percent less per terabyte and 98 percent less per IO Better reliability No moving parts, faster RAID rebuilds IO per second Response Time 1 Flash drive 1 15K Fibre Channel drive 10 15K Fibre Channel drives 30 15K Fibre Channel drives Note to Presenter: View in Slide Show mode for animation. EMC is also the first and only vendor to introduce Tier “0” Flash drives to the midrange. This is a significant accomplishment, especially considering that EMC has the most intensive and lengthy qualification processes in the industry. CLARiiON’s Flash drives are the same Flash solid-state drive (SSD) technology that EMC delivered early in on Symmetrix DMX-4 series systems. These are not the same as flash drives in consumer electronics. They are enterprise-class Flash drives that provide ultra-fast read and write performance for IO-intensive applications and provide the best response times. As a result, CLARiiON CX4 is able to offer Tier “0” storage for breakthrough performance, providing 30 times the IOPS of a 15K Fibre Channel drive and consistently delivering less than 1 millisecond response times. CLARiiON Flash drives are well-suited for applications with demanding IO requirements such as Business Intelligence and analysis, Seismic Analysis and Survey, and database log tables. Flash drives are more energy efficient with 38 percent less energy required per terabyte and 98 percent less per IO. CLARiiON Flash drives also deliver better reliability than traditional disk drives since they have no moving parts and provide faster rebuilds. Note to Presenter: CLARiiON Flash drives will be generally available in October 2008 with initial support on the CLARiiON CX4-960. First and only midrange storage array to support Flash drives Flash drives

8 CLARiiON Virtual Provisioning
EMC CLARiiON CX4 Series August 2008 Available October 2008 Simple to create Assign a pool name (e.g., “Test and dev pool 2”) Select resources (e.g., # of disks or GB capacity) Choose your protection level (e.g., RAID 5 or 6) Simple to assign Select a pool Choose a host Specify virtual capacity Simple to manage Expand pools nondisruptively Monitor usage versus virtually allocated capacity Trigger alerts and generate reports LOGICAL APPLICATION USER VIEW Common Storage Pool User A 10 GB User B User C Physical Allocation 3 GB 4 GB Note to Presenter: View in Slide Show mode for animation. Then next new innovation is software-based. New CLARiiON Virtual Provisioning allows users to present an application with more capacity than is physically allocated to it in the storage array. CLARiiON Virtual Provisioning simplifies and accelerates processes and delivers “just-in-time” capacity allocation and improved utilization. Virtual pools are easy to create whereby you simply assign a name, select the drive types and capacity amounts, and choose the appropriate RAID level for protection. To quickly allocate capacity, the user simply selects a pool, chooses the host, and specifies the virtual capacity amount to allocate. Once capacity is allocated, CLARiiON Virtual Provisioning has the capabilities to monitor the usage versus pre- set thresholds and automated alerts so that pools can be expanded nondisruptively. Note to Presenter: CLARiiON Virtual Provisioning will be available in October 2008 and supports advanced software capabilities, including Virtual LUN, Navisphere Quality of Service Manager, Navisphere Analyzer, and SnapView. Supports advanced capabilities: Virtual LUN, Navisphere Quality of Service Manager, Navisphere Analyzer, SnapView

EMC CLARiiON CX4 Series August 2008 CLARiiON Simplifies and Accelerates Oracle Deployments with Proven Solutions Scalable performance: Enable Oracle RAC Grid clustered consolidation; provides additional tiers for performance and Oracle partitioning Flexibility: Scale from iSCSI to Fibre Channel as Oracle application requirements change Integrated management: Oracle system monitoring for EMC; EMC Navisphere Quality of Service Manager for Oracle— bi-directional quality of service CLARiiON Virtual Provisioning: Flexibility to speed dev/test process Disaster recovery: Concurrent local and remote replication for flexible RPO/RTO requirements Decision Support Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Develop and Test Production Unified Management Backup and Recovery Enterprise Security Next, let’s consider Oracle. Oracle databases are deployed for OLTP production, associated development/ testing/quality assurance environments, and data warehouse and business intelligence. The CLARiiON CX4 is the ideal platform to apply to any or all of these. As you migrate to Oracle 10g or 11g, the new version of the Oracle Database has hundreds more features, which creates the need for more performance and scale. The doubled performance and doubled scale of the CLARiiON CX4 is a perfect fit. Every Oracle Database deployed will need an associated development and testing environment. Since development and testing environments are usually three to four times the size of production environments, there’s tremendous benefit in the CLARiiON CX4 series consolidating development and testing with production, and enabling flexible virtual provisioning to speed the development and testing process. Over time, as Oracle production data grows and data accumulates, many customers are now deploying Oracle data warehouses to mine this data. EMC has an Engineering team onsite working with Oracle to design, test, and document the CLARiiON CX4 series for optimized configurations specific to data warehouse workloads. About a third of Oracle customers are using RAC (Real Application Clusters) to consolidate one or more of these environments together, clustering the database servers. This means more storage coming into the infrastructure, and more performance needed. It also means that the cluster is now mission-critical as more data is connected to it. Five 9s system availability, as well as site-level protection and backup/restore, are critical requirements. Note to Presenter: Magellan Health Services’ customer profile can be found on EMC.com at this URL: “EMC Consulting helped us understand what ILM could do for us, and we definitely wanted to adapt it. That expertise, along with the visit to Oracle’s Technology Center, helped get everyone—from the Oracle and SQL DBAs to the Storage and Server Administrators—on the same page to see how it could all be used. We were excited to learn that EMC had co-developed a joint Proven Solution with Oracle to optimize database layout and performance.” Fran LoPresti, Director of Database Services, Magellan Health Services
