1 Welcome to Year 7 at Haileybury Turnford Transition Information Evening Wednesday June 14th
Good Evening and welcome …My name is Mrs Goodes my role in HT involves overseeing the Inclusion Team this includes making sure every student is supported both from a pastoral and academic viewpoint so they can reach their full potential We are looking forward to welcoming your child into HT in September and in helping your child make the very most of their experience here with us This evening, I want to give a brief outline of our key expectations of all students in ensuring we can encourage each individual to develop as confident, happy, ambitious and successful individuals and that their transition from year 6 to 7 is as smooth as possible. Everything covered this evening is also available in the Transition Booklet you should have all received.

2 Preparing you for your future
. Preparing you for your future Respect Resourcefulness Courage Resilience Organisation Reflection Inquisitiveness The pastoral care at HT is focused on aiming for every child to develop the ability to become the absolute best they can -through ensuring students feel valued and secure and through encouraging the HT habits The Haileybury Turnford Habits will be key to and underpin every learning activity within the academy and in fact everything students take part in. The Habits encourage students to consider and appreciate others, develop the capacity to overcome obstacles when the going gets tough and become resilient when faced with challenges. Our positive relationships and behaviour policy encompasses all the Learning habits. Students will be expected to develop the HT habits and our behaviour and reward policies will recognise when students are successful in these habits.

We have had many compliments about the HT uniform as it is distinctive within the local community. Wearing the uniform correctly is important for all students as we want your child to feel a sense of pride about belonging to our community. The uniform is a way of bringing us together as a learning community, it is important students wear this correctly as it shows respect for the HT values and community. How do we keep the uniform looking so smart- with parents/carers help! Checked by the Inclusion Team at the start of the day- all teachers and all staff. 5 Ready for learning: being mentally and physically prepared to face any challenge
Haileybury Turnford Student Planner, Reading book, text and exercise books. Organisation is absolutely key is students are to succeed and achieve. All students will need to have a bag large enough to carry exercise books and all equipment. All details can be found in the HT transition booklet and each of you have a copy of this. There is also an electronic copy on the HT website. Please help and support your child with their organisation. Some children are very organised and already possess these skills to organise themselves and be prepared for secondary education. Coming to secondary school is different and children quickly need to develop their independence and being organised really helps with this. Please help your child by asking questions about their timetable – posting a copy on the fridge; packing their bag the night before; making sure you are prompting them – some of them will need this. Gradually they will develop the independent skills but for some it can take a little time.

6 Ready for learning The rule is simple:
Why? A students’ main task is one of learning. Evidence shows mobile ‘phones reduce the capacity to learn and reduce test scores. ‘Phones distract students from the main task of learning. Phones will be confiscated if they are seen. Students’ can be expected to be challenged by any member of staff over using their mobile phone during the school day, and can expect to have their phone confiscated if this does happen. The rule is simple: Mobile phones are off and out of sight or your mobile phone will be confiscated

7 Ready for learning Student Planners
. Ready for learning Student Planners Your Parent/Carer will check your planner weekly and sign the correct page All students will receive a Planner on the first day. This must be brought to HT everyday. Students will record their Prep and other details. FT will check Please ask your child to show you their planner. Each child will be asked to show their Planner everyday for entry into the Dining Hall at break and lunch- SLT and staff. Different colour planners will denote the Year group and order of lunch queue – failure to bring produce planner- back of queue. It will have important information about their Prep – communication via FT and Parents Term dates/ behaviour policies/ useful websites/ rewards/ etc. The planner should be used as a means of communicating with your FT about your child/ concerns/ issues/

8 Prep expectations You will be expected to complete _________ of prep per night. You will receive ____________ After school Prep Club for KS 3 Show My Homework

9 Good attendance and punctuality improves chances of success
Good attendance and punctuality are essential if you are to achieve your full potential, both academically and socially.  You must arrive before 8.30am The main school gates will be locked at 8.30am If you arrive after 8.30am will be marked in as Late and will be issued with a late payback (detention) ·         You will attend a payback with a Year Leader on the same day at break time. ·         Failure to attend this payback will result in further consequences. It is absolutely crucial that your child arrives to HT on time everyday. This means in their Form Room by 8.25am. Punctuality is important – and key to ensuring students are setting positive patterns for the future. Being Late can be unsettling for a child. It may mean they miss out on important notices, vital messages and can set up bad patterns for the future that are hard to break. Please support your child and ensure they arrive on time every day. Gates are locked at 8.30 am We have a breakfast club serving hot and cold food and drinks from 8.00am in the dining room. Occasionally it may be a traffic/rare incident- let the school reception know. If a student receives 2 or Lates in one week- 2 hour payback Friday Students who fail to attend Friday payback…parent meeting with student Internal Isolation the following day. If a student receives more than 3 Late marks – a ‘Late Letter’ (after 8.45 am) will be sent to parents/carers informing parents of the number of Lates and the consequences of persistent Lates (Fixed Term Penalty)
