1 Welcome to Worship at St John’s
Inasmuch . . . Welcome to Worship at St John’s 13th August 2017

2 Sing for God’s Glory – StF 116
that colours the dawn of creation, racing across the sky, trailing bright clouds of elation; sun of delight succeeds the velvet of night, warming the earth's exultation.

3 Sing for God's power that shatters the chains that would bind us, searing the darkness of fear and despair that could blind us, touching our shame with love that will not lay blame, reaching out gently to find us.

4 Sing for God's justice disturbing each easy illusion, tearing down tyrants and putting our pride to confusion: lifeblood of right, resisting evil and slight, offering freedom's transfusion.

Last Verse Sing for God's saints who have travelled faith's journey before us, who in our weariness give us their hope to restore us; in them we see the new creation to be, spirit of love made flesh for us. © Kathy Galloway CCLI No

13 Our Response “Inasmuch as you did it ….” Send a Cow
How it all began from a chance Christian encounter “Inasmuch as you did it ….”

14 Heaven shall not wait StF701
First Verse sung by St John’s Singers Heaven shall not wait for the poor to lose their patience, the scorned to smile, the despised to find a friend: Jesus is Lord; he has championed the unwanted; in him injustice confronts its timely end.

15 for the rich to share their fortunes, the proud to fall,
Heaven shall not wait for the rich to share their fortunes, the proud to fall, the elite to tend the least: Jesus is Lord; he has shown the masters' privilege - to kneel and wash servants' feet before they feast.

16 Heaven shall not wait for the dawn of great ideas, thoughts of compassion divorced from cries of pain: Jesus is Lord; he has married word and action; his cross and company make his purpose plain.

Last Verse Heaven shall not wait for triumphant Hallelujahs, when earth has passed and we reach another shore: Jesus is Lord; in our present imperfection; his power and love are for now, and then for evermore. John L Bell & Graham Maule ©WGRG, Iona Community CCLI No

25 For the fruits of all creation StF124
thanks be to God; for the gifts to every nation, for the ploughing, sowing, reaping, silent growth while we are sleeping, future needs in earth's safe-keeping, thanks be to God.

26 In the just reward of labour,
God's will is done; in the help we give our neighbour, in our world-wide task of caring for the hungry and despairing, in the harvest we are sharing, God's will is done.

Last Verse For the harvests of the Spirit, thanks be to God; for the good we all inherit, for the wonders that astound us, for the truths that still confound us, most of all, that love has found us, thanks be to God. Fred Pratt Green © Stainer & Bell CCLI NO

Offering Commitment to Mission Prayers of Intercession “Inasmuch as you did it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it for me”

29 light for the world to see.
Longing for light - StF 706 Longing for light, we wait in darkness. Longing for truth, we turn to you. Make us your own, your holy people, light for the world to see.

30 Christ, be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness. Shine in your Church gathered today.

31 Longing for peace, our world is troubled. Longing for hope, many despair. Your word alone has power to save us. Make us your living voice.

32 Christ, be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness. Shine in your Church gathered today.

33 Longing for food, many are hungry. Longing for water, many still thirst. Make us your bread, broken for others, shared until all are fed.

34 Christ, be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness. Shine in your Church gathered today.

35 Longing for shelter, many are homeless. Longing for warmth, many are cold. Make us your building, sheltering others, walls made of living stone.

36 Christ, be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness. Shine in your Church gathered today.

37 Many the gifts, many the people, many the hearts that yearn to belong. Let us be servants to one another, making your kingdom come.
