8 Key Features: Graduate Faculty Member
4. Review of Action Items c. Graduate Faculty Membership Committee (GFMC) Report --Talking points and suggested guidelines from GFMC Standing Committee Key Features: Graduate Faculty Member Full Member Tenure track and tenured faculty are eligible. We are still defining degree requirements and possibility of equivalent experience. There is a strong feeling that a graduate faculty member would not be allowed to serve as the sole chair of a program of study committee for a degree that the faculty member does not hold.

9 Key Features: Associate Member/Term
4. Review of Action Items c. Graduate Faculty Membership Committee (GFMC) Report --Talking points and suggested guidelines from GFMC Standing Committee Key Features: Associate Member/Term Term membership replaced with Associate Member. A recognition of non-tenure track faculty directing programs/students Non-tenure track faculty Associate membership is granted for specific activities and these activities should be listed in the request.  These activities must be consistent with the candidates Position Responsibilities Statement. An associate member of the graduate faculty may only co-chair a committee for the highest degree they achieved. An associate member may not individually chair a POS committee.

10 Key Features: Associate Member Process
4. Review of Action Items c. Graduate Faculty Membership Committee (GFMC) Report --Talking points and suggested guidelines from GFMC Standing Committee Key Features: Associate Member Process Non-tenure track faculty with the appropriate degree must be nominated by the DEO and DOGE.  The graduate faculty in the major will be required to provide a secret ballot vote to support (or not support) the nomination. The nomination will include the confidential results of this vote.  At least 80 % of the graduate faculty in the major must support the nominee’s candidacy for membership.  The nomination will be reviewed by the GFMC. The GFMC can approve, ask for more information, or reject the nomination. A request for graduate faculty status in a second program (for example adding an interdepartmental program) should follow the same procedure. The initial appointment to Associate Membership is for a term not to exceed five years.  A permanent Associate Membership may be granted at the end of the first five- year appointment. Permanent Associate Membership is determined using the using the same process as the original nomination, but will include evaluation of participation in graduate education during the term membership.
