EMPOWER young Ghanaian girls to be contributing members in the society by applying Positive Youth Development Theory (PYD) through Schools and community 4-H clubs Over 11,000 young girls and boys will develop life and livelihood skills and relationships with caring adults to advance their AGENCY 1.

7 GENDER EMPOWERMENT DIALOGUE (GED)
GED will generate a talk on key issues in your community fueling gender stereotyping, gender inequality and inequity.

12 WHERE TO HOLD YOUR DIALOGUE
At a school. At a market place. In a boardroom. In places of worship. During club meetings. In meetings with partners.

13 DURING THE DIALOGUE SESSION
Have confidence that the local people are capable of performing their own analysis on the issue Be patient, respectful, open and not interrupting

14 A NOTE FOR CLUB ADVISERS
4-H Club Advisers must facilitate empowerment dialogue sessions at least once a month Suggested Topics: 1. Gender equality and equity 2. Stereotyping in gender division of labour 3. Gender Based Violence 4. Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights 5. Hygiene for Girls and Boys 6. Gender and Leadership

15 USING THE GENDER MANUAL

16 CONTENT There are 8 Chapters with 16 activity sessions.
Topics include Gender and Sex, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, Gender Based Violence, Stereotyping, Empowerment, Leadership, etc…… All activities must be completed within 8 months. Club Advisers are responsible to ensure they include sessions from the gender manual in their weekly meetings.

18 EXAMPLE OF ACTIVITY(refer to manual)
ACTIVITY Seven (7): Girls Empowerment Goal: To empower girls in 4-H Ghana clubs. Objective: The outcome of this lesson for women/girls is to get them to be self-confident, assertive and independent. Methodology: Discussions, Mentorship Time: 40minutes Materials Needed: Gender Training Manual Activity Steps: Step 1: Invite an influential person, preferably a female who has come out successful and empowered in spite of gender norms and stereotypes in your community to act as role model for the young girls. (Role models can include religious leaders, Teachers, Women lawyers, Education Directors, Female Agriculture Extension agents etc.) Step 2: Ask the Role model to assist club members to demonstrate the following dimensions of empowerment using the ‘AWARD’S AFRICA MODEL’ and the ‘GATE’S DIMENSIONS OF EMPOWERMENT’ Step 3: Explain the models stating examples from your own community using the following as a guide.

19 CONCLUSION The Gender manual is a very important tool to create awareness in schools and communities DMB’S, MMB’s, SMB’s, Agricorps volunteers and Club Advisers should encourage club members to use the gender manual and also hold empowerment dialogue sessions to negate gender norms and stereotypes.
