Purpose of this Report: To update Board members on national, regional and local issues, announcements relating to mental health, learning disability and community health services, and Chief Executive level discussions within the local health economy. Recommendations That the Board: Notes the content of the Chief Executive’s report Previous meetings/committees where the report has been considered: Executive Management Team Risk issues identified for discussion: Board members will want to identify any risks emerging from the content of the paper, and how new issues and challenges across the NHS might affect BDCFT. Any emerging issues may be taken forward through individual discussions with Directors outside Board meetings or suggesting a future paper to the Board or its Committees. During Heart Rhythm Week (5 – 11 June), Shipley medical practice held an open day at Kirkgate community centre offering people the change to check their heart health.  Read more Bradford and Craven health and care partners learning and innovation day took place on 19 May. The event organisers would be grateful if those who attended could completed this short evaluation form Carers Week: 12 – 18 June 2017 saw national carers week. The Trust support this annual campaign with a series of activities aimed to support carers to recharge, make new friends and access support to help thein in their caring roles. The CQC has opened a second set of consultations into new proposals to shape the next phase of health and social care regulation in England. Read more Volunteer heroes honoured: At the end of May over 300 dedicated volunteers were thanked for their valuable contribution to the community, at an annual celebration event held by the Trust. Trust Fire Safety checks following the Grenfell Tower Fire: Significant causes of the Grenfell Tower fire are understood to include a combination of the following: The installation of plastic-filled cladding to the tower block’s high-rise facades. Insufficient fire breaks between sections of the cladding such that in the event of fire, flame spread is contained close to the origin of the fire. Whilst Estates & Facilities is confident none of the Trust’s properties present such risks, a review of all of the Trust’s property, owned and leased, is being carried out to identify any such risks, which will be addressed immediately in the event of identification. Further updates will be provided shortly.

4 External Media Report - May 2017
The majority of coverage this month came from the nursing celebration event across online and print media; it also received coverage on BCB radio. Other coverage came from the volunteers event and dementia awareness week. The Trust received continued coverage online for its Romanian delegation visit. Twitter followers continue to increase. We saw a 22% increase in Facebook ‘likes’ and higher visitors to the website, primarily generated by proactive social media activity for the nursing celebrating event, this month. In May the Trust achieved positive/neutral coverage for the following proactive media activity: Nursing celebration event - Wharfedale Observer, Telegraph and Argus, Keighley News, Craven Herald, Ilkley Gazette and BCB radio with Rebecca Bentley. Developed at Bradford District Care Foundation Trust, the template supports healthcare professionals to identify patients with conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes and cardiovascular problems.  An independent health economics evaluation has shown potential cost savings in the Yorkshire and Humber region alone are estimated to be £11.3 million over the next 10 years through use of the template.
