To multiply you must divide the instrument in 3 sections as shown.

Add equal groups
The left section is for the first number you will multiply. The middle section is for the second number you will multiply. The right section is where you will add equal groups and show your final answer. For instance if you are practicing the 3’s table, you will add groups of 3 on the right hand side.
