3 Occasions to be a little late
In the United States and Canada, people usually like others to be on time, but for some occasions it’s OK to be a little late. For a class or a business appointment, plan to arrive on time or a little early. When you meet a friend, plan to arrive on time or 5 to 10 minutes late. When someone invites you to dinner, plan to arrive about 10 to 15 minutes late. For an informal party, plan to arrive a little late (15 to 30 minutes).

4 Question: How about you? Are you usually on time for class appointments? Is it OK to arrive late when you meet a friend for dinner and when you go to an informal party?

5 Rules to follow when going to a party
In the United States and Canada, people often invite friends to their homes for a meal or a party. Here are some simple rules to follow: When someone invites you to dinner, do not bring anyone with you because this would cause problems with the amount of food provided. Your host will tell you if you can bring a guest, such as your husband or wife. When someone invites you to a large or informal party, you can often bring a friend. But for smaller parties, always call your host first to ask if it’s OK. When leaving a party, thank the host for a good time and often make excuses for leaving “so early”, even if it isn’t early. Question: Do you often invite friends home for dinner? Is it OK to bring a friend to dinner? To a party? Is there any other rules to follow?
