Are you ahead of the data curve?
$500B global health care analytics market3 $480B global financial services IT spend4 General: General: in 2020 Retail: Healthcare: (pg 3) Financial Services: Speaker Notes: We generate a data footprint whenever we go online. It’s created when we carry our GPS-equipped smartphones, when we communicate with our friends or colleagues, and through all digital output created. This translates to a vast amount of digital information which is getting larger and larger ever more rapidly. To be successful, businesses realize that the more you know about anything or any situation, the more reliably you can gain new insights and make predictions about what will happen in the future. And this makes it possible to do many things that previously could not be done: spot business trends, prevent diseases, combat crime and so on. Managed well, the data can be used to unlock new sources of economic value and provide fresh insights. This slide shows not only how ubiquitous data production is but also how important data storage has become by sector spend allocated toward IT and analytics--notably in retail, finance and healthcare. Other real world examples of data being produced every minute of every day: 2,460,000 Posts to Facebook 277,000 Tweets sent More than 150 million s are sent 41,000 photos are loaded on Instagram 50,000 apps are downloaded from Apple 120 hours of new videos are uploaded to YouTube 600,000 Facebook login sessions every minute 4.19 million searches were performed on Google 80,000 sales transactions were recorded on Amazon And it just goes on. Not only is data growing exponentially, but the ubiquity of personal computing devices and cloud services are changing our expectations about how we want to access that data. VR market expected to grow 16x from $2.5B in 2016 to $40.3B in 2020 (source: superdata.com) AR market revenue expected to reach $100B by 2020 with 150% YoY growth (Source: BI Intelligence April 2015, ABI Intelligence Oct 2015, Goldman Sachs July 206, Digi-Capital 2016Q1) $204k in sales transactions on Amazon every minute2 150M s sent every minute2 1.7 megabytes of new info created every second for every human1 2017 Lenovo. Opportunities to innovate bring challenges…
Gain advantage from new innovations Adapt for quicker-turn IT transitions Mind the gap between operations and innovation Speaker Notes: Today’s technology leaders need to meet three overarching imperatives; modernize the data center, mitigate risk and enable business and IT transformation. In doing so, IT organizations need to satisfy increasingly more diverse, distributed and dynamic business requirements. This means supporting always on workloads, balancing cloud usage effectively, supporting new applications and iterative data analysis to drive real time decision making. Thus, infrastructure teams are continuing being asked to stand up new services faster, improve service levels and deliver greater performance. More details: New ways of customer interaction 2.4bn users with ubiquitous access 2.5bn GB of data created daily 50bn connected devices Changing roles of IT Developed to support the business Transitioning to leading the business IT Capabilities gap 80% of CEO’s rank growth initiatives as top business priority 20% of budget is allocated for innovation Integration Risk Proprietary Stacks Complexity New IT Models Flexibility and Scale Simplicity of Cloud Growth top priority, only 20% of budget for innovation Value Innovation 2017 Lenovo. Success requires agility
Speaker Notes: To meet these challenges, organizations are working to reinvent how they deliver IT services. The data center needs to evolve. The transformation is to achieve not only additional efficiency, but effectiveness as well. Depending on the business goals of the data center, this will result in fundamental impacts to the data center, how it is managed, and how IT infrastructure is consumed. Infrastructure modernization and automation is essential with resources that able to be consumed in a more agile and fluid manner. Increasingly, customers are looking to both software-defined infrastructure and cloud computing models to offer this agility and infrastructure flexibility. Delivering applications and resources on demand but tailored to balance on premise and public cloud use. Agility alone is not enough. Future-defined Strategy Optimal balance to scale and adapt IT Partners unconstrained to focus on client needs Cloud simplicity to broader workloads Status Quo is Untenable Workload-optimized for today vs. tomorrow Incumbent provider isn’t the only safe choice Public cloud not the only path to simplicity 2017 Lenovo. A Relentless Pursuit of Better
Different is Better The Future-Defined Data Center Speaker Notes: At Lenovo, we see two primary data center environments. A traditional data center environment serves to support and enable the business. The data center is the operational engine room of the business, and typically it must support a wide range of workloads – systems of record and back-office applications. IT systems deployed emphasize infrastructure safety — things like security, availability, reliability. The driving factors are primarily business continuity and cost containment (to reducing the friction of doing business). Hence, key focus areas for IT include utilization optimization, cost, ultimate hardware reliability and manageability. An agile data center is transformational. Purposed to support the new web scale architectures and address the new emerging internet based business opportunities, its infrastructure and operations are a central part of their cost of doing business, and in many cases, it IS the business! The emphasis here is on the speed and agility required to support the demands of the business. Key focus areas for IT include cost optimization and operational efficiency. These data center environments serve different business goals, BUT are NOT necessarily mutually exclusive. Issues affecting one typically affect the other, and many organizations will find themselves on a journey to transform a continuum of both. We have 3 categories. Our value category, SR530 (1U) and SR550 (2U), consists of server products suitable for 1st time owners and SMBs who need products that are simple and easy to distribute but are price sensitive. They have less memory, support fewer drives and less connectivity. These were created to satisfy customers with price sensitivity. Our value+ category is a hybrid category and consists of 1 Tower, ST550 (4U), and 2 racks, SR570 (1U) and SR590 (2U). This category can be thought of as in between the value and mainstream categories. It has more memory as well as AnyBay and NVMe support as well as increased processor capabilities. Mainstream is SR650 (2U) and SR630 (1U). These are the follow- ons to our x3650 and x3550 respectively. They support up to 24 DIMMs, more drives as well as more connectivity. Processors continue to get faster and hotter, so this is where our cooling capabilities come into play. In these products we wanted to leverage attributes that were more important to customers like our #1 reliability by ITIC (that we’ve held for 4.5 years) as well as value-add PFA (predictive failure alerts). Lenovo reliability features minimize downtime
Tool-less Designs Simplifies and expedites replacement of failed components Parts commonality Simplifies support across all platforms Customer replaceable components easily identifiable by blue color Enhanced Platform Alerts and PFA to provide advance notice of possible failures Speaker Notes: Customers are often curious about the features from previous generations that they’ve loved and hope to see again… In terms of minimizing a customer’s downtime, we generally like to discuss Light Path Diagnostics panel. The customer has options on the panel, it’s not standard on any product except on the SR950. We also have the Predictive Failure Alerts (PFA) or platform alerts, and we’ve made sure to enhance those. This all gets tied to the management stack where XClarity Pro Call Home, when turned on, notifies support based on the various alerts. XClarity can dynamically take the workloads and evacuate them, so the customer can do maintenance. There’s also tool-less designs to make things as easy as possible for customers to replace components as quickly as possible. Light Path Diagnostics notifies the customer via LED of failing components like DIMMs. This is available on the Mainstream systems (SR650 our 2U) and (SR630 our 1U), but we’ve eliminated it on our Value systems (SR550 and SR530). We leverage components across the portfolio, but we leverage it based on the class of product. (For the Value systems, where price is a priority concern, some concessions have been made.) Hot-swap fans have also made things easier to keep things up and running and minimize downtime. Light Path Diagnostics LEDs identify failing components XClarity Pro Call Home proactively notifies support based on defined alerts XClarity Dynamic Workload Evacuation moves workloads from a node sending a PFA to another node Hot-swap parts Easy replacement without powering-down the server 2017 Lenovo. MISSION-CRITICAL PORTFOLIO
Speaker Notes: Mission-critical workloads support the business in every dimension—its organization, its employees and its customers. These workloads are the most demanding types of applications and databases running on servers today, and include ERP, CRM, data warehouses, business intelligence and analytics. They must be available on a 24 x 7 x 365 basis. Let’s get into our value prop messaging for Mission-Critical and why Lenovo is putting the focus on these 3 points specifically. Always on reliability on x86 MCA Recovery, Memory Post Package Repair, Fatal Error Handling, Automated ROM Recovery; Lenovo value-added PFA ; Consistently ranked #1 in reliability by ITIC Always on reliability: Mission-Critical is a platform in which the customer can walk away and know that there is an extremely high level of reliability due in large part to MCA recovery, memory pooling – all the attributes that Intel built into the processor—but don’t think that’s just because of Intel. More importantly, Lenovo ensures that we adhere to ALL of the specifications. Not all vendors abide by all the Intel attributes. Most competitors will enable their products to support up to 80% on Intel’s projected Purley attributes. Lenovo leverages up to 98% of attributes from a RAS capability– This is one reason why we consistently get the #1 reliability ranking from ITIC for 4.5 years. We help to future-proof our customers to the best of our abilities, and we’re industry-leading in that regard. Real time insights for real time business Leadership benchmarks, Massive onboard storage, Direct Connected NVMe, Future proof with 3D Xpoint (*coming at a later date) Real time insights: This is all about having the leadership in benchmarks. Across the portfolio we’ve had benchmarks to date. Today, we currently hold 30 benchmarks. These numbers are dynamic after the 7/11 announce we hope to see more world records. For the most up-to-date info: We also have large amounts of storage and direct connect NVMe and future proofing for new Intel technologies. This class of products is about performance and reliability. Everything within reach Modular 4S & 8S in one platform, Modular drive tray, leverages NVMe drives, highest drive density, Front and rear access for easy serviceability, Efficient cooling Everything within Reach: As we saw earlier for our high volume products, they are serviceable top-down: you pull out the rack and open the top to service things. Mission-Critical products are a follow on to X6, this design is our foray into front and rear load which makes it easier to replace components. Mainframes are maintained while power is on but the domains are powered off, so we used this same concept in these products. Mission-Critical is set up to stay in the rack and have all the components maintained from the front or back to help increase uptime. In terms of workloads, these products are all about enterprise applications: databases/online transaction processing (OLTP), analytics, big data, business intelligence. These are companies who have a lot of online transactions and want to get customer insights instantaneously (selling trends, etc). These platforms are the heart of the business—database and doing the analytics for that data. RELIABLE POWERFUL MODULAR 21 2017 Lenovo. All rights reserved.

They are designed for the customer’s most demanding, mission-critical workloads--such as in-memory databases, large transactional databases, batch and real-time analytics, ERP, CRM and virtualized server workloads. The SR950 scales from 2 to 8 processors with easy front and rear access to all major subsystems. We will discuss these in more detail in the following slides; however, at a high-level, if your customer is price sensitive think about SR850, if they need better performance and reliability- SR950. After July, we will have more detailed presentations and Whitepapers that will get into the benchmarks, CPU and memory technology, tuning parameters, etc. (Future Links will be inserted here) Also memory will be more complex to configure and we’ll have a module in the online configurator to help customers to place adapters and also have to configure it from a memory point of view. 2017 Lenovo. Systems designed for higher temperature operation can be more reliably installed and deployed in a wider variety of environments giving customers more choice and freedom. Open Standard management API’s allow customers to continue to use the management console they use today since the XClarity Controller and the XClarity Administrator can upwardly integrate into many management consoles Shared motherboards allow customers to qualify their image on one server and minimize the work required to qualify another server. This frees up IT resources to focus on new projects. The tower server is designed to operate at very low acoustic levels and also has lockable bezels. This allows the server to be comfortably placed in office and retail environments. All the rack servers support lockable bezels enabling their use in less secure areas such as retail back offices. VDI Configuration: XenDesktop, Knowledge Worker, Stateless Broadwell solution, using Intel E v4: 356 users per 1U (x3650) Purley solution, using Intel Purley 8170 (approx. max TDP that’s fits in Stark): 902 users (per SD350) 902/356 = 2.53, so increase of just over 150% 2017 Lenovo.
