WHEN WE FINALLY GET HOME
II. WE WILL BE BLESSED IF WE ARE FAITHFUL

A. The Importance Of The Sayings Of Revelation

Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true
Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent His angel to show His slaves what must quickly take place.” Revelation 22:6 HCSB

1. Sayings – Greek - logos

2. Instructions

2. The angel goes on to remind John in words similar to Revelation 1:1

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John Revelation 1:1 NKJV

B. I Come Quickly

“Behold, I am coming quickly
“Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Revelation 22:7 NKJV

1. Same root word as in vs. 6

2. The word “quickly” has a different meaning in John’s day

3. Three times in this chapter Jesus says, “I come quickly”

“Behold, I am coming quickly
“Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Revelation 22:7 NKJV

“Look! I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me to repay each person according to what he has done. Revelation 22:12 HCSB

WHEN WE FINALLY GET HOME
III. WE WILL HAVE FULFILLED OUR RESPONSIBILITIES

A. The Priority

Now I, John, saw and heard these things
Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” Revelation 22:8-9 NKJV

1. John is so overwhelmed he begins to worship at the feet of the angel

2. Our relationship with angels

B. The Contrasts

He also said to me, “Don’t seal the prophetic words of this book, because the time is near.
Revelation 22:10 HCSB

1. Daniel was told to seal up the book

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Daniel 12:4 NKJV

2. John is commanded not to seal the book because “the time is at hand”

C. Continued Sin Defines A Person’s Character

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. Revelation 22:11 KJV

1. This is not an argument for sinners to remain unchanged

2. A person’s destiny is determined by how they live

Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
I Corinthians 15:33 NKJV

Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. Daniel 12:10 NKJV

3. People make their own decisions

4. The set sinful characteristics

But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8 ESV

For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. Revelation 22:15

5. If the prophecies are rejected there is no other message that will work

6. It is an either / or proposition with no neutrality possible

7. There is a sense also in which present choices fix character; a time is coming when change will be impossible

8. Present choices will become permanent in character

D. The Coming Reward

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. Revelation 22:12 NKJV

1. Something new is added here that is not in verse seven

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. II Corinthians 5:10-11 ESV

2. The standard (II Corinthians 5:11) is that of works

E. We Will See The Majesty Of The Eternal Christ

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 1:8 NKJV

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead
And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last Revelation 1:17 KJV

And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write, These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life Revelation 2:8 NKJV

And he said to me, “It is done
And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. Revelation 21:6 ESV

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” Revelation 19:9 NKJV

Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection
Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. Revelation 20:6 NKJV

“And behold, I am coming soon
“And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Revelation 22:7 ESV

Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. Revelation 22:14 NKJV

5. The contrast of unbelievers

Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers …
Philippians 3:2 KJV

Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. I John 3:15 NKJV

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Revelation 21:8 NKJV

Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Revelation 21:27 NLT
