Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.

It is not only possible, but probable, that St. Peter received every one of St. Paul's Epistles within a month or two of its publication. We cannot imagine that one apostle should have remained in ignorance of what other apostles were doing, and it is quite inconceivable that St. Peter should not have read Galatians and I Corinthians.

And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.

The purpose of Peter is intensely practical. He has written of the return of Christ not to arouse idle speculation or to occasion bitter disputes but to make better men and women. Two facts he makes perfectly clear: Christ will come, the result will be a reign of righteousness…
Thus, as he brings the epistle to a close, Peter gives two parting injunctions: one is to steadfastness, the other to spiritual growth.
