Entry 6: Objectives You will know the five geographic regions in China. You will learn the differences between the five geographic regions in regards to climate, physical features and vegetation. You will discover how geography affected where the first Chinese settled. You will learn how the first Chinese lived and communicated with others.

 What are the geographical characteristics of inner China?  What are the two regions of Inner China?  Entry 7 : Geography of Inner China The southwestern part of China, closer to sea level. Rolling hills, river valleys and plains. Flowing rivers.  Northern region- North China Plain has dry and cool weather. Southern region- Chang Jiang Basins has warm and wet climate. Summary:

9 Describe the Huang He river and it’s importance.
 What are the physical characteristics of the North China Plain? Describe the Huang He river and it’s importance.  Entry 8: North China Plain  A flat region of grassland. Temperatures range form very warm in summer to very cold in winter. Called “land of the yellow earth” because ground is covered by yellow limestone silt (which comes from the Gobi desert) Has the Huang He (Yellow River) World’s muddies river! Helps fertalize land, good place to grow crops. River has flooded 1,500 times! Summary:

 What are the physical characteristics of the North China Plain?  Entry 9: The Middle and Lower Chang Jiang Basins  Low, wet coastal plains. The basins located along the Chang Jiang river. River is longer the Huang He. The Chang Jiang river deposits very good soil and makes land very fertile. Less flooding then the Huang He. Less dangerous. Climate is warm and wet. Summary:

 What was life like in inner China?  Entry 10: Life in inner China  Larger and more settled population due to fertile land. Families grew mainly wheat and millet. Raised cattle, sheep, oxen, pigs and chickens. Herded cattle, water buffalo and horses. Much rice grown here due to warmth. Permanent strong homes built. Summary:

13 Written response Entry 10 If you lived in these ancient times, out of the five geographic regions in China which would you prefer to live and why. You must provide at least three strong reasons. The geographical regions are the Tibetan Plateau, the Northwestern Deserts, Northeastern Plains, North China Plain and the Chang Jiang Basins.
