Texas Southern University (TSU) doubled the number of science majors in a 5-year period. Increased science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) enrollment from 496 to 1,199 Focused recruitment especially within fields of chemistry, mathematics, computer science and physics

TSU was awarded $1.1 million by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for and $1.3 million for TSU exceeded NSF goal of doubling STEM enrollment over a five-year period Profiles of Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation scholars Average GPA – 3.64 Surpassed national and state SAT scores Credentials at a glance: Bill Gates Millennium Scholars (2), National Achievement Finalists, Valedictorians (2), Salutatorians (8), Who’s Who Among American High School Students (95%)

Achieved significant increases in targeted fields of study from Chemistry – 27 to 98 majors (263%) Computer Science – 75 to 224 majors (199%) Mathematics – 29 to 56 majors (93%) Physics – from 1 to 14 majors (1,300%)
