1 Cell Phones and Driving

2 Good drivers just drive

3 Summary of Article According to the article, on “Banning Cell Phones while Driving”, the author contends the following reasons why banning cell phones should be banned. The author states that Increased reliance on cell phones has led to a rise in the number of people who use the devices while driving. There are two dangers associated with driving and cell phone use. First, drivers must take their eyes off the road while dialing. Second, people can become so absorbed in their conversations that their ability to concentrate on the act of driving is severely impaired, jeopardizing the safety of vehicle occupants and pedestrians. Finally, the author concludes saying that talking on cell phones caused far more crashes, near-crashes and other incidents than other distractions while driving.

4 Conclusion In October 2009, the Ontario Provincial government has passed a law to prohibit the use of cell phones while driving, but permits hands-free . In my opinion, this is perhaps one deterrent to prevent car accidents, but the government should ban other activities that cause drivers distractions while driving and not just using wireless devices.

5 CON DISCUSSION Student Handout
1) Some employees like truck drivers and taxi drivers need to conduct business over the phone. 2) Drivers should be educated about the effects of all driver distractions and not just using cell phones. The government should include this in the drivers test. 3) Cell phones play an integral role in our society. Government should ban other distractions while driving like eating, listening to music, talking, shaving, putting on make up……

6 PRO DISCUSSION Student Handout
Using a cell phone demand greater continuous concentration, which diverts the driver’s eyes from the road and his mind from driving. Increased reliance on cell phones has led to a rise in the number of people who use the devices while driving. The number of accidents and fatalities are attributed to cell phones.
