1 Starter task: What am I? I am extremely large (up to 772 km across)
I form in the tropics I have four different names depending on where I form I have an ‘eye’. I need warm and deep seas to form I used to only get given girls names! I can cause lots of damage when I dissipate my energy. I have very strong winds and lots of moisture! I am a low pressure weather event WHAT AM I?

4 What is the difference between a hurricane, typhoon and cyclone?
Only geography. Tropical storms occur in several of the world's oceans, and except for their names, they are essentially the same type of storm.

5 Geography of Tropical Storms
In the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and the Eastern Pacific Ocean, they are called hurricanes. In the Western Pacific Ocean, they are called typhoons. In the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and Australia, these types of storms are called cyclones.

MARK SCHEME Oceans have deep seas which are needed for formation (1) Around the equator are warm seas (above 27 degrees) which are needed for formation (1) as air will rise to form a low pressure system (1) rising moist air then condenses forming the thick clouds and heavy rain (1) At the equator, the trade winds help the storm to spin (1).
