Why is it “Recommended” to Renew your CPR Training every 2 years?

While your Certification Card may Recommend that you Renew your CPR Training every 2 years; some Employers actually Require that you Renew your CPR Training every 2 years as a condition of employment.

Every 5 years, The American Heart Association (AHA) publishes new CPR Guidelines based on Scientific Evidence & Research. It is important to stay current with the updates, as it could potentially change treatment outcomes. The most recent updates were in 2015.

Have you ever heard the expression, “Use It or Lose It”
Have you ever heard the expression, “Use It or Lose It”? Our brains need repetition to memorize & recall information. That is why it is necessary to complete a CPR Course that tests both your cognitive (thinking) & physical (body) abilities every 2 years. Skills decrease with time!

FALSE There are always 2 parts to complete in a CPR Course. Companies that claim otherwise are false. While the cognitive part may be completed in person, online or challenged, the hands-on portion must be completed with a Voice Assisted Manikin or a Certified CPR Instructor.

The following Skills should always be assessed by a Voice Assisted Manikin or a Certified CPR Instructor in a CPR Course, without exception:  Chest Compressions  Rescue Breaths  Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

The following Skills are evaluated to determine if your Chest Compressions are effective: √ Proper Hand Placement √ Proper Body Positioning √ Compressions that are deep enough √ Compressions that are fast enough √ Full Chest Recoil

The following Skills are evaluated to determine if your Rescue Breaths are effective: √ Proper Barrier Device Assembly & Placement √ Establishing an Open Airway √ Rescue Breaths that are long enough √ Visible Chest Rise

The following Skills are evaluated to determine if you know how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED): √ Ability to Locate & Turn on AED √ Proper AED Pad Placement √ Clearing of Patient to allow for Rhythm Analysis √ Clearing of Patient to allow for Shock (if advised) √ Continuation of CPR

Training Centers, Training Sites & Affiliated Instructors all agree that they will conduct classes in accordance with their health & safety organization (i.e. American Heart Association, American Safety & Health Institute, American Red Cross) standards. Students should submit a written report to health & safety organizations when an individual has conducted a class in an illegal, dishonest, unethical or unprofessional manner.

Ask yourself these questions: 1
Ask yourself these questions: 1. Do I feel fully prepared to help perform CPR in a true emergency? 2. Do I trust that others are fully prepared to help perform CPR on me or one of my family members in a true emergency?

If you feel the slightest bit of hesitation, then you should consider taking another CPR Course with a reputable Instructor. There are no shortcuts in life, so why should there be any in Lifesaving instruction? Challenge yourself to get out of that just pay for a card mentality.
