4 WHY MENTORING ? One of PMI Strategic Objectives is to make leadership excellence a strategic competency: Create a model for developing a strategic competency in leadership excellence that would be based on a culture of learning, founded on respect and support for one another. 5 Mentoring vs Coaching Coaching is a more about instructing and directing (Push approach). Mentoring is more about advising, listening and influencing (Pull approach).

6 MENTORING Benefits Acquire knowledge and enhance professional skills
Learning more efficiently Gaining increased confidence Receive practical advice Increase professional network Pass on years of experience Broadened perspective

7 Mentor A Mentor is an experienced, wise and trusted adviser, counsellor or teacher. Helps mentee build skills to reach their goals. A Mentor is not a personal counsellor.

8 Mentee Mentee is a person who seeks to develop with the help of mentor. Mentee takes responsibility for their personal development including identifying his/her own goals and makes plan to meet them. Mentee owns and drives the relationship. Mentee is not an additional resource for the mentor.

9 Expectations Mentor and Mentee makes commitment to the relationship.
The Mentor and Mentee will collaboratively develop a customized Project Management mentoring plan and conduct ongoing reviews to determine progress against the plan. Discuss and schedule the probable length of formal mentor/mentee partnership. The Mentoring Plan objectives must be practical, time bound, and specific.

10 Expectations Setup expectations and limits. Maintain confidentiality.
Focus on mentoring goals. Documents and tracks mentee progress in a formal tool. Declare any conflict of interest in advance. Keep the relationship on a professional basis.

11 Scope The program will be focused on Project Management related topics such as: Project Management Processes Scope Management Time Management Cost Management Risk Management Procurement Quality Management Human Resource management Leadership skills Project reporting and project success measurement
