Sue Sullivan from NJDOE led the effort to add Computational Thinking : Computer Programming to the Technology Standards 8.2.E Standards released in October 2014 Very basic, but a good started. New Jersey is one of only seven (?) states with computer science standards. (Code.org/CSTA)

Beginning with the grade nine class, the State Board of Education shall require that the local graduation requirements adopted by a board of education permit an Advanced Placement computer science course to satisfy a part of the total credit requirement in mathematics. For an Advanced Placement computer science course to satisfy a part of the mathematics credit requirement, the student must be concurrently enrolled in or have successfully completed algebra I and geometry or the content equivalent. All high schools in New Jersey must offer a computer science course by 2018/19.

The average salary for a computing occupation in NJ is $97,862, which is significantly higher than the average salary in the state ($53,920).
