Isaac Newton Isaac Newton was an English mathematician and scientist who studied forces of motion and gravity. He is most known for his laws of motion

Newton’s First Law of Motion
According to Newton’s first law of motion, the state of motion of an object does not change as long as the net force acting upon on the object is zero

First law cont. This is a fancy way of saying: If the net force acting upon an object is zero (balanced), the object will not move.

First law cont. Newton’s first law is often referred to as the “Law of Inertia” Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist change in its motion.

First law cont. An object at rest tends to remain at rest, and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same direction and speed unless acted upon by an unbalanced force

Newton’s Second Law of Motion
According to Newton’s second law of motion, the acceleration of an object is equal to the net force acting on it divided by the object’s mass

Acceleration = Net force / Mass
Second law cont. Acceleration = Net force / Mass

Second law cont. The acceleration of an object is always in the same direction as the net force

Second law cont. This object has 3 N of force pushing the object to the left, but 8 N of force pushing the object to the right. The Net force would be moving the object 5N to the right

Calculating Force By using Newton’s second law, we can also calculate the force acting upon an object by knowing the mass and acceleration of an object

An object has a mass of 50kg and an acceleration of 10 m/s2. What is the force? F = m x a F = 50kg x 10 m/s2 F = 500 N
