At Lime Rock Park Speedway we walked away with another 2nd place trophy along with many ideas that could potentially provide improved efficiency and performance.

2011-2012 The Problem Solving / Design Process
We began by building a model using scraps of wood from around the shop. A totally new “built from scratch” car was about to emerge from the minds of our students. Again, our sponsors paved the way for a highly-successful and highly -educational hands-on experience. This process far outweighed the educational value of putting our original kit car together. The Problem Solving / Design Process
12
This is the end product of the 2011-2012 Problem Solving/Design Process:
A lightweight tubular steel frame with a much lower profile for improved aerodynamics, and better weight distribution. This is a prime example of what our students can accomplish when faced with an appropriate challenge. We look forward to its debut race at Lime Rock Park the spring of 2013.
13
That year’s sponsors, combined with last year’s balance provided $2886
That year’s sponsors, combined with last year’s balance provided $ to work with. The team invested only $ into this “scratch built” car, 42% less than our first “kit car”.
14
This year’s team has investigated the original kit car and decided to “repurpose” nearly all of its components for another challenge. Our prioritized list of ten major improvements that are already in the works: Overhead roll bar – lower profile & less wind resistance. Aluminum frame – much lighter. Joy stick steering – better driver visibility. Hydraulic brakes- less drag then conventional cable brakes. Optimized battery locations – better stability and weight distribution. Netting for the backrest – less wind resistance. Lexan cover over driver - improved aerodynamics. Round off the front of the car - improved aerodynamics. Adding a suspension system- better handling and ride. Mirrored visibility -this may or may not materialize. If it does, the aerodynamics would be vastly superior.
