1 Sir Isaac Newton

2 Newton Born: 4 Jan 1643 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England

3 Isaac Newton came from a family of farmers but never knew his father.
He seemed to have shown little promise in academic work.

4 Newton went to Cambridge for a law degree.
There, he began his interest in math and physics.

5 Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion
1. An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion at constant speed and in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

6 The first part of the law:
A football will remain on a tee until it is kicked off or wind blows it off.

7 Second part of Law 1: A bike rider will continue moving forward after the bike tire may run into a crack and come to a stop until gravity and the sidewalk stop the rider.

8 Law 2. The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied. or F=ma

9 Acceleration of a 4kg bowling ball will be greater than the acceleration of a 6 kg ball if the same force is applied to both.

10 3. Whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first.

11 A runner is able to move forward because of the equal and opposite force the ground exerts on the runner’s foot after each step. = = Force Force
