5 Full-Time Benefited SEIU Unit Employees
Hours Full-Time Benefited SEIU Unit Employees Normal Hours: Average of 37 ½ hrs per week over the year. We are a professional unit! Comp Time – Accrued by exempt employees who work weekends and holidays.   If you work more than 37 ½ hrs. during work week, you can flex time as long as you fulfill your responsibilities. Non-Exempt employees will be paid for any time worked over 37 ½ hrs. per week (or can request comp time). JL

6 Non-Exempt Eligible OT & FLSA
New FLSA Law Effective December 2016 Two general criteria determine if an employee is exempt or non-exempt.   1. Salary  2. Job Duties (add in description from FSLA law) Employees who make <$47,476/year will be considered non-exempt and paid hourly, not salary.   All non-exempt employees will be paid 1-½ times their hourly rate after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. If you don't know if you are exempt or not, contact HR! NP

7 Salary Increases July 2016: 1.75% January 2017: Recent & Upcoming
Be on payroll by April 1, 2016 Minimum “Solid Performance” rating January 2017:  January 2017 increases will be consistent with the January 2016. January 2016 Process:  1% + Merit increase pool (.75% of all salaries) Must have at least a “Solid Performance” evaluation to receive 1% increase or be considered for merit. July 2017 will be determined in new CBA. NP

8 Promotional Opportunities
All SEIU 888 unit members who submit application for vacancies in our unit and who meet minimum qualifications for position shall be granted an opportunity for a personal interview. NP

9 Accrues by length of continuous FT employment
Vacation Time Accrues by length of continuous FT employment < 8 years: 20 days/yr. (1-2/3 days/mo.) 8-16 years: 22 days/yr. (1-5/6 days/mo.) 16-25 years: 25 days/yr. (2-1/12 days/mo.) 25+ years: 30 days/yr. (30 days/yr.) JL

10 Sick Leave 13 days/yr. accrues from date of hire.
Effective Jan. 1, 2015 13 days/yr. accrues from date of hire. Max of 60 sick days/fiscal yr. can be used when eligible family member is ill. Retirees eligible for 20% of value unused sick time. Give 6 months notice. (Employees hired after 1/1/15 have a 120 day pay-out cap). Sick Leave Bank – eligible to use for catastrophic illness/injury if complete probationary period & contribute to sick leave bank. JL

11 Sick Leave Buy Back Effective Jan. 1, 2015 Eligible employees have option to receive 50% of unused annual sick time (not accrued) every year. Application due to HR by March 1st   ( When cashing in sick time, members are not able to use the sick bank for 1 year after the cash in Eligible Employees: Eligible for retirement: 10+ years of service & over the age of 55 OR 20+ years of service  With sick-buy-back.  The employee must be eligible to retire, meaning, they have worked 20+ years OR 10+ years and are 55 years of age or older. 12 Personal Time Effective Jan. 1, 2015 7 Personal Days - 1 of which must be used after Thanksgiving. New Hire Personal Days Jan. 1 – Mar. 31: 7 days Apr. 1 – Jun. 30: 6 days Jul. 1 - Sep. 30: 5 days Oct. 1 – Dec. 31: 4 days 2017 – will revert back to 6 days per year unless new agreement in CBA. JL

13 Maternity & Paternity Leave
Birth, Adoption or Foster Care CBA provides Maternity/Paternity Leave - 2 weeks paid time off (do not need to use sick, vacation or personal time) Maternity/Paternity Leave under chapter 149, section 105D provides 8 weeks per child of unpaid leave (members can use sick, personal or vacation during this time) FMLA covers birth, adoption or placement for foster care. Can use 12 weeks during any calendar year NP

14 Health & Welfare Funding University currently contributes funds each calendar week per each FT SEIU 888 unit member to Health & Welfare fund.  2015: $15.50 per FT member 2016: $16 per FT member 2017: $16.50 per FT member Important for our members to join union! Dental & Vision - Rick Harvey NP

15 Discretionary Fund Funding Discretionary Funding .25% of the unit payroll as of each proceeding June 30 to be applied to address specific operational needs. All of FY16 and FY17 discretionary funds went  to Health and Welfare to fund eye & dental improvements.   NP

16 Effective Fall 2015 Semester
Tuition Remission Effective Fall 2015 Semester Spouses & dependents of FT benefited employees are eligible for tuition remission after completion of 2 years of FT service at any UMass Campus or System Office. Must be enrolled as FT or PT students. Eligible for 50% of curriculum/operating fees waived. Dependents must be <26 years old. Continuing Ed – 100% waiver for unit members & 50% for spouses & dependents. Unit members only 1 during working hours, approved by supervisor & area VC. NP
