USES To retract the rectus sheath can be used as a crushing instrument Used to grab fibroid nodules in myomectomy

2 Curved Mayo's Scissors Curved mayo’s scissors/Surgeon’s scissors USES
used in cutting tough tissue Can also be used in blunt dissection

3 Simpson’s perforator USES To perforate the skull bone and break down septae in destructive operation

4 DESTRUCTIVE OPERATIONS
Indications: Malpresentation Hand prolapse with dead fetus Cord prolapse with dead fetus

5 it is used for embryotomy
Embryotomy hook USES it is used for embryotomy The crotchet is used to remove the decapitated head, introduced through the mouth or head. The hooked end is used to give traction onto the groins in cases of extended breech presentation Crotchet and hook used

6 Cleidotomy scissors USES used in dividing the clavicle either in a destructive operation or in case of obstructed labor i.e. in a live infant In cases of shoulder dystocia

7 Decapitating hook USES as the name implies- to decapitate the fetal head in cases of transverse lie also indicated in cases of locked twins

8 USES as the name implies- to decapitate the fetal head in cases of transverse lie also indicated in cases of locked twins

9 USES For crushing the fetal skull ( no longer in use The most commonly performed destructive operation in UCH is CRANIOTOMY

10 USES To hold either sides of the fetal scalp To apply fetal head on placenta previa - tamponade

11 NAME-Episiotomy scissors
USES Used in performing episiotomy Layers that are cut through in episiotomy: skin, bulbospongiosus, superficial and deep transverse Perineal muscles and the vaginal wall. TYPES: J shaped, mediolateral and midline

12 There is less pain the postpartum period
EPISIOTOMY: surgical incision of the perineum made to increase the diameter of the vulval outlet during delivery TYPES: Midline Medio-lateral J-shaped Advantages of midline Less blood loss It is easier to repair The wound heals faster There is less pain the postpartum period The incidence of dyspareunia is reduced Disadvantage High risk of third/fourth degree Perineal tear

13 Wriggley’s forceps USES can be used in to release an impacted fetal head during cesarean section. can be used to deliver a fetus with face presentation. it is an outlet forceps also a low cavity forceps.

14 Conditions for forceps delivery
Fully dilated cervix Outlet should be adequate, no CPD. Ruptured membranes Contractions should be present ( uterine) Engaged head Presentation should be cephalic Surrounding viscera should be emptied – bladder/rectum Complications Fetal: intracranial hemorrhage, facioparesis, cephalhematoma. Maternal: Perineal laceration, cervical incompetence, fistula formation

15 NAME-neville barnes’ forceps
USES It is an axis traction forceps.

16 NAME- Kjelland’s forceps USES AND PROPERTIES
It has a sliding lock NAME- Kjelland’s forceps USES AND PROPERTIES it has a sliding lock, pelvic curve is not prominent Can be used to correct asynclitism. It is used also in Deep Transverse Arrest

17 NAME-neville barnes’s/simpson’s forceps USES AND PROPERTIES
it has an English lock, no pelvic curve used for forceps delivery

18 CEASAREAN SECTION Indications:
FETAL: Abnormal lie & presentation, Cord prolapse, Hand prolapse, fetal distress, macrosomia, breech presentation, multiple gestation >3 MATERNAL: Contracted pelvis, medical illness, Eclampsia, Failure of induction of labor, Failure to progress in labor, Major placenta previa, Premature separation of the placenta SOCIAL know very well

19 INDICATIONS FOR CLASSICAL Uterine fibroids in lower segment
Pelvic adhesions from previous surgeries Co existing Ca Cervix Transverse lying fetus Peri-mortem C/s History of previous Classical Indications for classical cesarean section

20 NAME-Sponge-holding forceps USES
for holding sponges in Cleaning Remove products of conception during manual vacuum aspiration Clamp umbilical cord Grasp the lips of the cervix during repair of cervical laceration

21 Ovum forceps USES For removing products of conception in inevitable or incomplete abortion. For removing retained membranes from uterus after delivery For twisting pedunculated polypi For removing any foreign body from the uterus

22 Surgeon’s scissors USES can be used for cutting tough tissues e.g. rectus abdominis fascia during cesarean section can also be used for blunt dissection.

23 Vulsellum USES used in holding the anterior & posterior lip of the cervix in operations like D & C. For grasping small fibroids in myomectomy. Can be used for the introduction of laminaria tent To test mobility of cervix and laxity of ligaments in prolapse To bring down the uterine fundus in vaginal hysterectomy

24 Surgeon’s scissors USES

25 NAME- ?Babcock forceps USES To hold the fallopian tubes during tubal surgery Other instrument used specifically for tubal surgery are: the above, duval forceps and tubal probe

26 NAME-Amniotomy hook USES used in artificially rupturing the fetal membranes just before labour

27 NAME-Towel clips USES to hold the edges of the drapes together during surgery also used in securing other materials needed in the operating field e.g. suction nozzle & diathermy

28 NAME-Towel clips USES: Same as above

29 NAME-Lagenberg’s right angle retractor
USES to retract the abdominal wall or other structures during surgical operations.

30 USES

31 CZERNY retractor USES

32 PAPANICOLAOU SMEAR Avoid sex 72 hours before Fixative - 75% alcohol 3 separate samples – vaginal, endocervix and ectocervix STAIN CONSTITUENTS: PAPANICOLAOU: Heamatoxylin, Orange G, Bismuth Brown, Eosin Yellow & Light green Giemsa Flourescent label

33 Curette USES To curette out the products of conception in cases of missed or complete abortion.
