1 Magnet activities in SPS during EYETS 2016-2017
J. Bauche, on behalf of the SPS Magnet Team SPS Tech. Coord. meeting,

2 Before Christmas break
Inspection “Magnet Patrol” (IMPACT 84646) Main magnets and transfer line quadrupoles Removal of the magnet covers Audio-visual inspection in pulsed mode Machine conditions Machine closed to non-MNC personnel during tests Power, cooling, interlocks, access, and controls operational Access system in «Magnet Patrol» mode Support from other groups BE/OP to power the magnets and lock the accesses All other teams ready to intervene in case of system/service failure (EPC, EL, MPE, ICS, CV, etc…) Already scheduled in SPS planning: 12/12 (covers) and 13-14/12 (tests). Transfer line quadrupoles possibly on 14/12 PM

3 Before Christmas break
High voltage tests (IMPACT 84646) To detect weaknesses in main magnet circuits insulation Main dipoles and quadrupoles (962 units) Busbars and water cooled cables are tested together with the magnets! Machine conditions Machine closed, in dedicated configuration (CIS system of EPC) Cooling circuits running Separation of power converters from load Test +/- 6kV on dipole and +/- 4 kV on quadrupole circuits, from BA3 In case of failure, localization in the machine, repair, and re-test Support from other groups TE/EPC for the test, BE/OP to lock the accesses (machine closed) Already scheduled in SPS planning: 14/12

4 Preventive/corrective exchange of main magnets
After Christmas break Preventive/corrective exchange of main magnets (IMPACT 84647) Expected 10 to 15 main magnets to be replaced Based on audio-visual inspection and HV test results Coil movements on quadrupoles and dipoles Water leaks Any other issue detected until end of run 2016 (already XXX) Machine conditions Free access to material lift and passage for transport equipment Demin. water circuits purged Support from other groups EN/HE, TE/VSC, BE/ABP/SU Main magnet replacement

5 Before and After Christmas break
Removal/reinstallation of magnets for LIU (IMPACT 84647) Magnets removed from machine for aC coating and Impedance reduction program Program managed by VSC - 2 QD + 2 SSS girders (close to QD magnets) in half-cells 507 and 509; - 9 SSS girders (close to QF magnets) in half-cells 420, 422, 424, 426, 428, 430, 432, 434, 500. Machine conditions Free access to material lift and passage for transport equipment Support from other groups EN/HE, TE/VSC, BE/ABP DS LSS ARC BA4 BA5 existing aC SSS QF works MBB works Drift tube works 9 SSS QF to transport 2 SSS QD to transport 2 QD to transport Courtesy P. Cruikshank

6 Magnet general maintenance
After Christmas break Magnet general maintenance (IMPACT 85482) Corrective / preventive maintenance Main dipole pole shim inspection and repair Busbar system inspection, cleaning of salpeter under covers Minor activities on auxiliary magnets Machine conditions No special request, activities transparent for other teams Support from other groups None Radiation protection For any activity potentially generating significant dose, a specific IMPACT (+ WDP if needed) will be set-up, e.g. for the glitch hunt in 120 Broken pole shim

7 Many thanks in advance for your support!
