ROOM SELECTION Your step by step guide to Homesteading

2 PAY YOUR $300 Housing Deposit/Complete Housing Application
PRIOR to participating in HOMESTEADING, you will need to PAY your $300 HOUSING DEPOSIT by following the below steps: Simply log into Click on the "Navigation Menu" in the top left hand corner. Click on the "Student Services" menu.  Click on "Student Payment Center" under General. Click on "My Payment Center". Select the "eDeposits" tab. Select the term for which you are applying for (e.g., Fall 2016) Select the type of deposit you want (i.e. Housing Deposit). **Students paying by cash, check or money order must do so at the Student Financial Services Suite, 206 Memorial Hall.

4) Click on the 'Residence Life" menu.

5) Click on the "Residence Life Room Application“

6)Select the term you are applying for(fall 2016) and then click SUBMIT.

Indicate on your Housing Application ONE of the following: I wish to be Administratively Assigned I intend to Homestead I intend to be pulled in I do not wish to Homestead Check ”Yes” only if you have not decided to homestead your current room and want Residence Life to assign you to a space which they choose based on your preferences.

9 Complete Your Housing Application
Please verify all information you include on your HOUSING APPLICATION is ACCURATE(i.e. phone number). Indicate if you require an accessible room (students must be registered with the Student Access Services office) Please review the descriptions of the residential communities including Themed Living Communities(TLC’s). Indicate your preference to reside in a Themed Living Community. Verify Phone Number Check if ADA room needed Indicate interest in Themed Living Community

10 Complete Your Housing Application
Complete your housing preferences, EVEN IF you intend to homestead your current space. Your preferred roommate’s information MUST be listed in the first line. Enter 1 additional person if you are looking for a double. Enter 2 additional people if you are looking for a triple. Enter 3 additional people if you are looking for a suite.

11 ELIGIBLE TO HOMESTEAD????? You must confirm on your Housing Application that you are eligible to HOMSTEAD your SPACE: This is what you will see if you are not eligible to HOMSTEAD your room. Rooms are not eligible to homestead, such as first-year spaces. To be eligible to homestead your space, your housing application should look like this

12 Important Homesteading Information
Rooms MUST be filled to CAPCITY. It is important that the student fill the space they are looking to select with the proper number of people required for that room. a double needs two people, a triple needs three, a quad needs four, a suite needs four, etc. Indicates that the room is currently full and no student can be pulled in. Indicates current residents.

Have your roommate list your name and Hofstra ID# on there application as well. List roommate on the first line, and then list suitemates.

14 Important Homesteading Information
Roommates/Suitemates NOT returning to the room MUST release their space on their housing application

15 Important Homesteading Information
As a homesteader in a suite, in order to secure a particular roommate, you MUST list that individual FIRST in the specific roommate request section of the application. The first person listed will be your actual roommate.

16 Homesteading Pull in Process
During the Homesteading Process students have the ability to pull other students into their room if there is going to be a vacancy. For students living in Colonial Square or Nassau/Suffolk Halls, its imperative that the student(s) being pulled into a vacant space SUBMIT their Housing Application FIRST indicating their preferred roommate and suitemates.

17 Homesteading Pull in Process
Once all students being pulled in have updated their Housing Applications the person(s) Homesteading should update their Application indicating their preferred roommates and suitemates. Indicates students being pulled into the room.

18 Final Submission By clicking the “I Agree” button you are agreeing to “The Residential Living Agreement”, “The Living Factor”, and “The Code of Community Standards”.

19 Final Notification Once you hit the “Submit” button, Students will not have the ability to access their Housing Applications to make any changes once they have selected a room for the upcoming academic year.

20 Dining Services: Dining Plans
Click on Dining Service Application to apply for meal plan

21 Dining Services: Dining Plans
Select term Fall 2016

22 Dining Services: Dining Plans
1. Confirmers your personal information is accurate. 2. Select the meal plan of your preference. 3. Submit your choice. Notice: If you decline at this time and do not return to select a meal plan, the minimum plan.

23 Final Notification All parties involved will receive a confirmation to their Hofstra Pride account within minutes of homesteading or being pulled into a room/suite.
