Fought between the forces of King Henry VI and his wife Margaret of Anjou (House of Lancaster), and representatives of the House of York led by Richard, Duke of York and the Earl of Warwick.
Both houses were branches of the Plantagenet royal house, tracing their descent from King Edward III.
