Largest Island – Great Britain. (England, Scotland, and Wales) 2nd Large Island – Ireland (politically divided into two countries)

3 Names… “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”

4 British Cuisine – Staple Foods Known for hearty meals. Bread Meat
Cheese Pies Puddings Known for hearty meals.

5 English Tea “Afternoon” or “High Tea” Served daily in late afternoon.
Tea accompanied by tea sandwiches and small desserts. Time to sit, talk, and relax. Often times the afternoon break from work.

6 Scottish Cuisine Known for – Skills – Simple, good, wholesome foods
Baking is considered one of their greatest skills.

7 Welsh Cuisine… Cuisine – Use homegrown foods to prepare dishes.
Substantial yet plain and economical.

8 Irish Cuisine… Cuisine – Staples – Breads –
Although divided they share culinary heritage. Staples – Potatoes, Cabbage, Onions Breads – Considered the best in the world!!!

9 English Tea Traditions
The common English Tea started in the late 1700’s. Prior to that, the English enjoyed only two meals per day – breakfast and dinner. After that time tea was served along with little cakes and sandwiches, acting as a light snack.
