1 Advanced Protection Against the Effects of Moisture
Updated: December 2013

2 What is EnduraGuard®? EnduraGuard is Pella’s trademark name for the wood protection used on Pella’s exterior wood parts EnduraGuard will also be referred to as; EnduraGuard Wood Protection

3 Why is wood treatment important?
Like most wood treatment formulas, EnduraGuard includes; Water repellency to protect against the effects of moisture, Fungicides to protect against decay, stains caused by mold and mildew Insecticides to protect against a variety of insects, including termites.

4 What delivers Pella’s EnduraGuard performance?
An effective combination of three active ingredients, together with our proven immersion-treatment method, helps ensure strong protection on every exterior wood surface of our window and patio doors.

5 What is the advantage of three active fungicides?
Some major competitors use only one fungicide which may result in gaps in protection, specifically against stain fungi such as mold and mildew. Pella JELD-WEN Shown: Field testing of a Pella and Jeld Wen casement window that used only one active fungicide, after seven months of exposure to moisture. For testing purposes, the seal between the bottom rail and the glass was compromised in both units.

10 Competitive Positioning

11 What are the Key differences between EnduraGuard and JELD-WEN’s AuraLast?
Treatment Method: Pella uses an immersion process; JELD-WEN uses a pressure-treat process Moulding and Tenoning: Pella moulds and tenons parts before they are immersed; JELD-WEN moulds and tenons after parts are treated, which could result in weaker protection on cut surfaces. Active Fungicides: Pella has three active fungicides for a broader base of protection against stain and decay caused by mold and mildew; JELD-WEN uses one active ingredient which is known to have gaps in protection, specifically against stain fungi. Woods Treated: EnduraGuard is used on all wood types sold by Pella; AuraLast is only used on pine, an immersion process is used on their other wood types.

13 Is EnduraGuard environmentally friendly?
EnduraGuard has been approved for use by the Environmental Protection Agency. Pella has a commitment to environmental stewardship, taking a comprehensive approach that maximizes recycling opportunities, minimizes waste and pollution, reduces energy consumption, and ensures that Pella products are made to last.

14 EnduraGuard Summary Wood treatment is a secondary defense, the initial defense involves preventing wood from becoming excessively wet for extended periods. EnduraGuard has three active fungicides for a broader-base of protection from stains and decay caused by mold and mildew. Pella wood parts are immersed in EnduraGuard, this proven method creates stronger protection on all surfaces and cut edges that may be exposed to the elements. Pella wood and wood/clad windows and patio doors, as well as select Entry door frames, are treated with EnduraGuard. *Excessively wet is defined as over 28% moisture content.
