So to begin, I just wanted to briefly touch upon some recent changes to our organisation. As some of you may know, we were formerly called QPILCH which was an acronym for the Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House. That name was appropriate when the organisation was first established back in 2001 as at that time we were only a clearing house. However, over time we expanded and developed new direct legal services and on 15 February 2017, we underwent a name change to become “LawRight”, which was chosen to better communicate our role and function to the public.

8. Internet Use
Just over a year ago the Australian Bureau of Statistics released this data relating to household use of information technology:
The number of households with access to the internet at home has increased, reaching 7.7 million in , representing 86% of all households and this is increasing.
Households located in major cities were more likely to have internet access at home (88%) than those in remote or very remote parts of Australia (79%). The internet was most commonly accessed by desktop or laptop, followed by smart phones, followed by tablets.
The rate of use increased with the level of education, and 93% of employed people used the internet compared to 70% of those not employed.
There were 1.3 million Australian households without internet access at home and the main reasons given were:
no need – main reason given in both major cities and RRR areas
lack of confidence or knowledge and
cost.
These statistics do not take account of homeless Australians.
