30 Embedding the language
All this language is designed to be used as part of everyday classroom practice. You could do the register with Si and No on some days (hacemos la lista for the register is in the Greetings PPT). For this topic, embedding the language would be the focus as opposed to the language being taught as such. There are example activities however to help teachers reinforce the language being used. I take an active part in daily routines, responding to instructions which are accompanied by gesture and expression. MLAN 2-01b

31 Sample activities You will find a bank of sample activities which you can use to practise the vocabulary in the classroom. This is not a prescriptive list of activities and you can use or adapt them to suit the needs of your class.

45 Activité 2 Class signs

46 Class signs Writing activity
Pupils use the vocab learned to create a set of class signs for the classroom. Pupils can design an image to go on the signs and they can be laminated to be displayed throughout the year. As pupils develop their knowledge of classroom vocab these signs can be developed further. I can ask for help confidently using learned phrases and familiar language. MLAN 2-04a

47 Activité 3 Dictionary Race!

48 Dictionary race Dictionary Skills! Teacher shows pupils the following instructions and pupils work in pairs or in teams to race to find the meaning of the word written in blue in the dictionary. They should then translate the whole sentence into English! I can understand how a bilingual dictionary works and use it with support. MLAN 2-11a

49 1. Ecoutez le professeur. 1. Listen to the teacher.

50 2. Regardez le tableau. 2. Look at the board.

51 3. Asseyez-vous sur le canopé.
3. Sit on the sofa.

52 4. Répétez le mot. 4. Repeat the word.

53 5. Levez la poubelle. 5. Lift the bin.

54 Activité 4 Bossy boots!

55 Bossy boots! Talking activity Work in groups of 3/4
Pupils write a selection of instructions in English on pieces of cards and then place them into a pile, face down, in the centre of the table. At this point you can extend the activity by asking them to add in new instructions. Some examples are on the next slide. They then take it in turns to choose a card from the pile and give the instruction in French e.g. touch your heads. The rest of the pupils in the group have to do the activity and if the pupil gets the phrase correct, they keep the card. They continue to work their way round the group until all the cards are gone. The person with the most cards at the end, wins! I can participate in familiar collaborative activities including games, paired speaking and short role plays. MLAN 2-05b

56 Extra bossy phrases! Touchez le nez Touch your nose Touchez la tête Touch your head Touchez le bra Touch your arm Regardez la table Look at the table Regardez la fenêtre Look at the window Regardez la porte Look at the door Dansez Danse Tournez Turn Prenez un stylo Pick up a pen Prenez un crayon Pick up a pencil Prenez une gomme Pick up a rubber Levez la jambe Lift your leg Levez les pieds Lift your feet Hochez la tête Shake your head Hochez la jambe Shake your leg

57 Songs and videos! You will find a bank of sample songs and videos which you can use to practise the vocabulary in the classroom. This is not a prescriptive list of songs and you can use or adapt them to suit the needs of your class. I explore the patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and show understanding and enjoyment by listening, joining in and responding. MLAN 2-01a
