1 Psalm 112: Blessings For The Holy
Wisdom From God Psalm 112: Blessings For The Holy

2 Another “Praise The Lord” Psalm
Begins with the words, “Praise The Lord” as with Psalm 111 and 113 In this psalm praise is to God for His bountiful provision for those who fear Him. Blessings for the godly are rich and varied, most of which have nothing to do with material blessings. This psalm explores many such blessings from God.

3 A Life Much Improved: vs. 1-6
Special blessings for the God-fearing person V “Praise the Lord! How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments.” Psalm 111:10 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandment; His praise endures forever.”

4 The God-Fearing Man Proverbs 15:16 – “Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and turmoil with it.” Proverbs 19:23 –The fear of the Lord leads to life, so that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.

5 Multi-Generational Blessings
V. 2 – “His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed.” Concept that wickedness breeds wickedness, and holiness breeds holiness. Holy parents who parent in holiness are far more likely to produce holy children, etc.

6 Parenting For Holiness
Ephesians 6:4 – “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 6:6-9 – “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up….You shall write them on the doorposts of you house and on you gates.”

7 Blessings Of Wealth and Riches
v. 3 – “Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.” Yes, God does provide riches and wealth – to the degree we are able to righteously steward. Our righteousness is of greater concern than riches.

8 What are riches and wealth?
Difficult to measure Not all riches can be spent or consumed James 1:17 – “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”

9 1 Corinthians 4:7 “For who regards you as superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?” Even humility is a gift from God!

10 Gracious and Compassionate Living
V. 4-5 – “Light arises in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious and compassionate and righteous. It is well with the man who is gracious and lends; he will maintain his cause in judgment.”

11 Understanding Grace and Compassion
Hurricane Harvey and price gouging. Pure capitalism lacks compassion. Luke 6:35, 38 – “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men….Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure – pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

12 Galatians 6:9-10 “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.”

13 Unshakeable Permanence
v. 6 – “For he will never be shaken; the righteous will be remembered forever.” Hebrews 12:28 – “Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe….” Psalm 15:5 – “He does not put out his money at interest, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.”

14 Peace and Security – v. 7-10 No fear even in hardship
v. 7 – “He will not fear evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” He has a steadfast heart His trust is in the Lord

15 Victory Over Our Adversaries
v. 8 – “His heart is upheld, he will not fear, until he looks with satisfaction on his adversaries.”

16 Exalted Because of Generosity
v. 9 – “He has given freely to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be exalted in honor.” Matthew 6:1 – “Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.” Proverbs 11:25 – “The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.

17 Not So The Wicked v. 10 – “The wicked will see it and be vexed, he will gnash his teeth and melt away; the desire of the wicked will perish.”
