Info Tab Allows the user to password protect a document

Compatibility Mode Some functions are limited when viewing older versions of a document Must save as a .docx (Word 2010 file extension) to have full capabilities Word saves as a .doc, Word 2010 saves as a .docx BE CAREFUL when sending files to others in Word 2010 – if they don’t have Word 2010, they will not be able to open the file

Protecting Documents In Microsoft Office 2010, you can use passwords to help prevent other people from opening or modifying your documents, workbooks, and presentations **NOTE: It’s important to remember your password because Microsoft cannot retrieve your forgotten passwords

Save/Save As Save: Saves the changes made to the existing document
Save As: saves the document with a different file name and/or file type

File Extensions .docx: Word 2007, 2010, 2013 .doc: Word 97-2003
.dotx: Word template .rtf: Rich Text Format allows a user to open the file in text editors with limited formatting .txt: Plain Text Format allows a use to open the file in text editors with NO FORMATTING .pdf: Portable Document Format allows a user to view the file in Adobe Reader

Close Close: Closes the document, not the Word program
