God’s desire for human beings, v1 - God wants relationship with us - it’s what we are made for God’s covenant promise to Abraham, v7 - God: “I am giving you myself” - Jesus: “I am coming to be one of you - and die” - called by a new name Abraham’s act of allegiance - circumcision - ours? - honour God with your life - and what about baptism? “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6.8) When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless.” (v1) “I am God Almighty...” (v1) “I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.” (v7-8) - “I will be your God...” (v7) Abraham “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4.10) “...you will be called by a new name... a crown of splendour... a royal diadem...” (Isaiah ) “...whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10.31) “...your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit... Therefore honour God with your body.” (1 Corinthians )
