2 Introduction At TekTone®, our 30 years of listening to health care professionals has given us the insight to develop a wireless emergency call system with all the features you want—such as resident pendants, check-in devices and pocket pagers. We’ve developed our Tek-CARE®500 wireless emergency call system to enhance the service you provide to your residents. At the same time, you’ll find it’s the easiest and most efficient emergency call system you can use. This presentation is designed to familiarize you with the UL®2560 Listed Tek-CARE®500 wireless emergency call system. For complete user instructions, please refer to the Operation, Installation and Service manual (part number IL881).

3 NC501ES Tek-BRIDGE® server
System Components Central Notification Station: The Tek-BRIDGE® server processes and displays transmitter call information from the system’s receiver. Many programmable options are available to customize a facility’s system. The NC501ES Tek-BRIDGE® server includes pre-installed Tek-CARE®500 software, plus central monitoring, reporting, and text messaging capabilities. (UL® 2560 listed systems require software v.7283 or higher.) NC501ES Tek-BRIDGE® server

System Components Central Notification Station: The Receiver collects signals from the transmitters, repeater/locators in the field and then transfers that information to the Tek-BRIDGE®. NC501ES Tek-BRIDGE® server NC510UL Receiver The NC510UL Receiver is connected directly to the Tek-BRIDGE® via the supplied cable. The receiver transfers information received from the transmitters in the field to the Tek-BRIDGE®.

System Components Central Notification Station: The Uninterruptible Power Supply provides uninterrupted power for the Tek-BRIDGE® and Receiver in the event of utility power failures, brownouts and blackouts. NC501ES Tek-BRIDGE® server NC510UL Receiver When power is interrupted, the PK250B immediately cuts in to provide power until an emergency generator is activated or power is restored. Battery backup for the Tek-BRIDGE® is rated for 10 minutes. PK250B Uninterruptible Power Supply

System Components Repeater/Locators are strategically placed throughout the facility to collect and re-transmit signals from transmitters and other repeater/locators to the receiver. Repeater/Locators also provide general location information. Wireless transmitters include call pendants, motion detectors, door/window alarms, room stations, emergency switches and check-in/assistance stations. 8 Transmitters The single-button pendants are water-resistant transmitters suitable for use in showers and bathtubs. The neck pendant includes a lightweight neck cord, which will separate to prevent choking if it is pulled tight. Place a call: Press and hold the button for at least 1 second.

9 Transmitters Reset a call from a pendant
Option 1: Place the dot on the RP500 Alarm Clearance Card over the pendant’s call button. The pendant’s blue LED will quickly blink six times to indicate the call has been cleared. Option 2: Press the call button three times in quick succession. The blue LED will blink twice. Immediately press the button three more times. The blue LED on the pendant will quickly blink six times to indicate the call has been cleared.

10 Transmitters Wireless emergency switches are available in both standard and waterproof versions. Place a call: Slide the red switch down until the call assurance LED is lit. Reset a call: Slide the red switch up until the call assurance LED is extinguished.

11 Transmitters The passive infra-red motion detector may be used as either a call transmitter or a resident check-in device. Place a call: Call is initiated by movement. Reset a call: Click on the call in the Events Monitor and then click the Acknowledge button.

12 Transmitters The door/window egress transmitter notifies staff when a door or window is opened. Place a call: Call is initiated by opening the door or window that the device is connected to. Reset a call: Depending upon how the device is configured: The call is reset automatically when the door or window is closed, or Click on the call in the Events Monitor and then click the Acknowledge button.

13 Event Monitor Event Monitor’s Call Display—The call display shows all active calls, including call type, transmitter device number, resident name, location, and time elapsed since the call was initiated.

14 Registers The Registers are at the bottom of the Event Monitor screen. The six pages are used to view resident and transmitter information. They can also be used to add residents, assign transmitters, and determine which staff pagers receive event notification.

15 Patients/Residents Register
The Patients/Residents Register displays a list of residents, along with tabbed panes that display each resident’s information, assigned locations, and assigned transmitters. It can also be used to add or remove residents from the system. Patient/Resident Information fields are custom-created for a facility using the separate Config Tool programming software.

16 Transmitters Register
The Transmitters Register displays a list of all transmitters and repeater/locators. Tabbed panes display the transmitter’s location, assigned resident and supervision settings. The Transmitters Register is also used to add or remove transmitters from a system, and to assign transmitters to residents.

17 Staff, Groups & Assignments Registers
The Staff, Staff Groups and Assignments Registers are used to customize a system to send automatic text messages to selected staff pagers.

18 Text Messaging Using Tek-PAGING® equipment, Tek-CARE®500 automatically sends a text message to staff pagers in response to a resident call. To send a manual text message, click on the envelope icon at the bottom of the registers, select staff members, type a message and click the Send button.

19 Remote Event Monitor The Remote Event Monitor software may be installed on up to 9 of the facility’s personal computers (PCs) running Microsoft Windows®, and networked to the Tek-BRIDGE® server. (One remote event monitor license is included with the NC501ES.) Remote event monitors provide real-time monitoring of all system activity, create reports using a web browser, and send manual text messages to selected staff pagers (if included in the system).

20 Adding a Resident With the Event Monitor software running, click the Registers button in the lower right corner of the window. Click Patients/Residents in the Registers List if it is not already selected. The register will open. Click the Add button in the Patients/Residents register and fill out the information fields in the Details pane beginning with the Name field and any custom fields under the Patients/Residents tab.

21 Adding a Resident To add a patient photo, click Add in the Image pane and browse to the location of the photo. Click Open to use the photo as the residents image. The image can be any of the following formats: BMP, JPG, GIF, or PNG. Click the Locations tab in the Details pane and select a default location for the patient from the Default Location drop-down menu. If the resident’s default location is a two-bed room, select the Default Side that for that resident. If the resident is to be assigned to more than one location, check the appropriate boxes in the Locations list below the Default Location drop-down menu. Click Apply to write the changes to the system. Repeat for each additional resident to be added. When all programming is complete, run the Config Tool software, load the new system configuration, and save a copy for backup.

22 Adding a Transmitter Ensure that the Event Monitor software is running. If it is not, double-click the LS576 Event Monitor icon on the Tek-BRIDGE® desktop and choose the appropriate network options from the splash screen. Click the Menu button in the lower left hand corner of the event monitor window and select ES/UL Traffic from the menu. The ES Traffic window will open. At the top of the window, check the boxes labeled Hide transmitters already in system and Hide supervisions.

23 Adding a Transmitter 4. Insert a battery into the device to be added to the system, and then place a call. In the ES Traffic Window, watch for a Device ID to appear as shown below. Select the call in the traffic list from the transmitter to be programmed, and click the Add transmitter to system button.

24 Adding a Transmitter The Transmitters register (below) will appear in the Event Monitor. Verify that ES/UL is selected from the Transmitter Family drop-down menu, and that the Device ID has been captured. If the transmitter will be used immediately, check the In Use box. Select the appropriate Device Type from the drop-down menu.

25 Adding a Transmitter For stationary transmitters, select the location where the transmitter will be installed from the Location drop-down list. Pendant transmitters will be automatically assigned to the Mobile location. Select a resident to associate with each pendant transmitter. Click the Apply button to add the transmitter to the system, and then reset the call from the transmitter. Repeat for all remaining transmitters.

26 Reporting The Tek-CARE®500 Reporting System produces custom reports about events that have been cleared from the Event Monitor. These reports provide valuable information to evaluate and optimize staff time. The information contained in these reports also provides accountability information to the facility for each zone, room, type of call and time period.

27 Reporting Options The Reporting Options screen is used to define the report’s parameters to create a custom report. Select or enter the desired reporting time period, shift, relevant calls (zones, transmitters, residents, event types), and response time. In the Output Types pane, choose HTML to open the report in the browser window or CSV to open the report in a spreadsheet. Then click on the Create Report button at the bottom of the screen.

28 Reporting Options Reports are created using a web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

29 Low Battery Report The Low Battery Report shows the transmitter ID (Dev #), hardware type, location and resident of transmitters that need their batteries changed. To create the report, click the Menu button at the bottom of the Event Monitor, and then select Low Battery Report.
