Macbeth Remediation – typed and printed – needs to be placed on my desk. If more than 1 page, make sure it’s stapled. Double check that your name is on it. Absent Friday? Your project is due today and needs to be turned in…you will present tomorrow for presentation points. Otherwise – you will complete the remediation. Due Thursday. 2 Macbeth Act 5 Quote Review
“Out damned spot! Out, I say!” Speaker: Lady Macbeth Meaning: She is sleepwalking and rubbing her hands together as if she is washing them to remove the blood from the murders she and Macbeth have committed. “All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand” Meaning: There is blood on her hands which will never be washed away. (not even perfume could make it disappear)

“What’s done cannot be undone” Speaker: Lady Macbeth Meaning: She is still referencing the blood on her hands, but this refers more to the guilt she cannot get rid of. “I have lived long enough: my way of life / Is fall’n into the sere, the yellow leaf; / And that which should accompany old age, / As honor, love, obedience, troops of friends, / I must not look to have; but in their stead / Curses” Speaker: Macbeth Meaning: He has given into what the witches (the sere’s) spoke of and will not have the typical niceties of his older life, but will spend the last of his days cursed.

“Canst thou not minister to a mind diseased, / Pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow” Speaker: Macbeth Meaning: He wishes that the doctor would heal Lady Macbeth by removing a “disease”. The disease is her guilt, but he will not admit this to the doctor. “I have supped full with horrors” Meaning: He has seen horrible things and he no longer feels fear because he is desensitized after what has happened.

“To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow, / Creeps in this pretty pace from day to day / To the last syllable of recorded time, / And all our yesterdays have lighted fools / The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! / Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player / That struts and frets his hour upon the stage / And then is heard no more: it is a tale / Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, / Signifying nothing” Speaker: Macbeth Meaning: He is speaking of Lady Macbeth’s death…that it would have happened someday. Life is an illusion and stupid and has no meaning.

6 Macbeth Act 5 Quote Review
“I ’gin to be aweary of the sun, / And wish the estate o’ the world were now undone” Speaker: Macbeth Meaning: He is tired of being alive and wants to see the world plunged into chaos. “Lay on, Macduff, / And damned be him that first cried, ‘Hold, enough!” Meaning: He is telling Macduff before they battle each other that the first to stop fighting is damned.
